I have been on ebid over a year now and in that time I have attracted about 50 customers, compared with 1200 "over there". Every buyer "over there" gets a letter with their purchase telling them about ebid - I also email them all every three months or so. But my customer base here is not expanding as I would like. My price here is lower than elsewhere as well.
Recently a customer "over there" bought about 80 items at one go, I discovered he lived locally so I did a personal delivery. Since then I have kept in touch and fed him more information regarding my products and about ebid.
I have just come back from delivering a second major purchase. Chatting on the doorstep he complained about ebid. All he wanted to do was view my items, but having registered once ebid kept "looping back" every time he wanted to see something else. In the end he gave up.
From meeting the chap I must admit he doesn't seem very computer literate (but why should he be) and as a seller here who rarely buys I can't comment on the "buying experience" on ebid.
I have seen other threads here talking about buyers who get "barred" for some minor problem with their registration.
It seems to me that making it easy for people to come an view and then buy items should be right at the top of the list as far as web design is concerned, and I have a very eager and good customer who can't and now won't use this site :-(
