    Default Re: REVELATION (Part 2)

    Revelation 12
    (Continued)

Revelation 12:13--14 When the dragon realized that he had been thrown down to earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the child. But she was given two wings like those of a great eagle. This allowed her to fly to a place prepared for her in the wilderness, where she would be cared for and protected from the dragon for a time, times, and half time. [NLT]

The two wings that the woman was given were protection from God. In Exodus 19:4 God had sent a message to the His people that....."I bare you on eagle's wings and brought you to myself." And just as God brought the remnant of Israel into and through the wilderness; the woman (Israel, the seed bearer) would be carried into the wilderness, protected and provided for until she reached the promised land (heaven).

John describes an enraged Satan who has lost access to the throne of God, and has been restricted to the earth. Satan pursues, chases, attempts to overtake the woman (Israel, the seed bearer), who had given birth to the male child (the Messiah). God will provide not only a means of escape, but a specially prepared place of refuge in the wilderness, to meet all of the woman's needs. In other words, God in going to protect and provide for the surviving remnant of Israel, during the second half of the Tribulation Period (time, times, and half time; 3.5 years; 1260 days).

Revelation 12:15-16 Then the dragon tried to drown the woman with a flood of water that flowed from it's mouth. But the earth helped her by opening it's mouth and swallowing the river that gushed out from the mouth of the dragon. [NLT]

Satan, making a final attempt to destroy Israel, is depicted by John as using a flood of water, to annihilate Israel. Satan is trying to interfere with God's plan of redemption. This was not a spray of water, but came forth with the strength of a tsunami. The earth, under the control of God Almighty, opened her mouth and swallowed this massive flood of water that was cast out of the mouth of Satan. This scene brings to mind Israel's deliverance from Egypt, as God parts the Red Sea, allowing the Israelites to cross on dry ground, but drowning the Egyptians in that same sea, as they attempted to pursue Israel. [Exodus 14]

The water that is cast out of the mouth of Satan represents the words of Satan (false doctrine) that is sent forth to destroy the people of God. The earth, typified as "the world" will open it's mouth and swallow this massive flood of deception that originates from the mouth of Satan. Thus the world will become increasingly deceived in the end times. Thus the woman (Israel) will not be swept away by the deception of Satan.

Revelation 12:17 Then the dragon became angry at the woman, and he declared war against the rest of her children--all who keep God's commandments and confess that they belong to Jesus. [NLT]

An absolutely enraged Satan will declare war against Christians (those grafted in as seed of Abraham, through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross). The rest of her children (Covenant Israel) are all who call upon the Name of Jesus, from any and all nationalities. Satan's final attempt to destroy Israel, is his attempt to keep Israel from accepting Jesus Christ as their Messiah.

Both. As with any of this information, start with "the source". I have been approaching this topic using various versions of the Bible. I switch between the versions because a passage of scripture may be clearer in a particular version. I read it; see what it is saying IMHO; read other's opinions (other study sources) of the same chapter and verses.

Some people have study sources on Revelation that they can relate to and feel comfortable with, in terms of how it is being interpreted. I like to do a keyword google search to pull up other's writings on Revelation. For example, google "Revelation chapter 12" ; you should come up with alot. If you read some of the articles you will get a feel for what others are saying about that chapter. You may agree with some of it, and disagree with some of it. That's ok.

Quite frankly, with a topic such as this, that is probably the most that anyone can do. No one understands everything about Revelation, but we all have the right to read it, and understand it to the best of our ability. Also some people look at this topic from a non-biblical approach. They may not believe the Bible or hold to any particular religious belief system. In that case, they probably will see this topic quite differently.

Even among people who believe the Bible and consider themselves Christians, or other faiths; they could interpret Revelation very differently. But if you google up some references and most appear to be saying similar things, it may very well be because it is the most apparent interpretation. Hope this helps answer your question.

P.S. My current study resources include Bibles :King James Version (KJV), New International Version Study Bible (NIV/NIVSB), New Living Translation (NLT). Also using The Oxford Companion To The Bible, by Bruce M. Metzger and Michael D. Coogan. Also using An Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words, by W.E. Vine.

Along with those hard copy study resources and the Bibles, I google chapters or topics from Revelation online.

    REVELATION 13

Revelation 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. [KJV]

Revelation 13 is a continuation of the events of chapter 12, where Satan was cast out of heaven and unto the earth. John is standing on the seashore, and is an eyewitness to Satan's warfare strategies on earth. Some versions of the Bible show Satan standing and waiting on the seashore. [Rev.12:18 NLT] John is documented as key eyewitness to these events in both scriptural renditions.

Revelation 13 reveals three (3) characters that make up an unholy trinity. A beast from the sea (Anti-christ) is introduced in Rev. 13:1 This beast had seven heads and ten horns; and each of the ten horns had a crown. The beast of Revelation 13:1 (Anti-christ) is the same beast described by Daniel 7:7-8, 23-27. This beast represents the fourth kingdom, the kingdom of Anti-christ, the final kingdom in power before the return of Messiah (Jesus Christ).

The unholy trinity consists of the beast arising from the sea, Anti-christ (Rev. 13:1-2, 5-10); the dragon, Satan (Rev 13:3-4); and another beast coming up out of the earth, the false prophet (Rev.13:11-16). Satan transferred his power, throne, and great authority to the beast (Anti-christ) and the false prophet acted as an enforcer for the beast (Anti-christ) [Rev 13:16-18].

    Revelation 13:2
This beast looked like a leopard, but it had bear's feet and a lion's mouth! And the dragon gave him his own power and throne and great authority. [NLT]

Daniel has a vision of four beasts that will arise from the sea (Daniel 7:2); the first was like a lion with eagle's wings....the second like a bear.....the third like a leopard....and the fourth diverse from the others, and it had ten horns, and among them another little horn with eyes like a man and a mouth speaking arrogantly. The little horn ripped three horns from the ten horns. (Daniel 7:4-8)

The beast of Revelation 13:1-2 had some features in common with the first three kingdoms described in Daniel 7 (lion, bear, and leopard) but the fourth beast in Daniel described as diverse from the others. Daniel's vision speaks of 4 successive kingdoms, with the fourth kingdom ruling the whole world. The Lion represents Babylon; the bear represents Persia; the leopard represents Greece; and the beast represents the Revived Roman Empire.

    Revelation 13
    (Continued)

The beast (Anti-christ) described in Revelation 13:1-2 can be understood more clearly by looking at Daniel chapters 2 and 7.

Daniel had interpreted the dreams of King Nebuchadnezzar regarding a great image with a head of gold, chest and arms of silver, stomach and thighs of bronze, legs of iron and feet of mixed clay & iron. The dream represented four major world kingdoms, and their ultimate destruction by the 5th Kingdom of God. [Daniel 2]

The four beasts of Daniel 7 represent the same kingdoms identified by the great image in Daniel 2; and the beast of Rev. 13:1-2 is the 4th kingdom as follows:

Great Image in Dream of Nebuchadnezzar [Daniel 2]
Head of Gold [Lion with eagle's wings, Dan 7:4] [Had mouth like a lion, Rev 13:2] [Babylon]

Chest & Arms of Silver [Bear raised up on 1 side, Dan. 7:5] [Had bear's feet, Rev. 13:2] [Persia]

Stomach & Thighs of Bronze [Leopard with 4 wings, Dan. 7:6] [Resembled a leopard, Rev.13:2] [Greece]

Legs of Iron; Feet of Clay & Iron [Beast with 10 horns and a little horn among them, Dan. 7:7-8] [Beast with 10 horns, 7 heads, & 10 crowns on it's horns, Rev. 13:1] [Rome/Revived Roman Empire]

The metals revealed the diminishing value of each successive kingdom along with their increasing strength. The 10 toes of the fourth kingdom corresponds to the 10 horns, being strong yet weak, as clay and iron do not mix. The animals and the beast reveal characteristics of those world kingdoms.

The fifth kingdom, the Kingdom of God will ultimately defeat all worldly kingdoms and will be an everlasting kingdom. [Rev. 11:15] [Daniel 2:34-35, 44-45; 7:26-27]

    REVELATION 13
    (Continued)

Revelation 13:3 One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was astonished and followed the beast. [KJV]

The beast depicted here has 7 heads; the 7 heads are 7 kingdoms from the time of the Patriarchs to the end of the age. The seven (7) kingdoms are Egypt, Assyria, Babylon*, Persia*, Greece*, Rome, and the Revived Roman Empire* The 7th head representing the Anti-christ/his kingdom is fatally wounded, but the wound is healed. The world, who has been deceived by Satan, will follow the beast because of the miraculous healing.

Note: Daniel's vision in Daniel chapter 7 contained four (4)* of these kingdoms. Daniel's 4th beast was the Revived Roman Empire; Daniel's 4th beast had 1 head and 10 horns. [Daniel 7:7]

The number 7 is a number of completeness or wholeness. Seven is used frequently in the Book of Revelation; for example the 7 Churches of Revelation 1-3 represents 7 specific churches of John's day and the Universal Church (One) Body of Christ.

The 10 horns are 10 future kingdoms that will turn their power over to Anti-christ and his satanic kingdom. Both Daniel and John focus their attention on attributes describing the Anti-christ. John focuses on the 7th head above that was fatally wounded but healed. Daniel describes a little horn that comes up among the 10 horns. The little horn is Anti-Christ and the 10 horns represent his kingdom. Some time during the mid-point of the Tribulation Period, Daniel explains that three of the ten horns are ripped out, possibly due to rebellion against Anti-christ's rulership. [Daniel 7:8]

Revelation 13:4 So they worshipped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshipped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him? [KJV]

The world will worship Satan who empowered the beast; they will focus their worship on the beast who was miraculously healed of his fatal wound. They will consider the beast undefeatable, and desire to be associated with his power. Satan's final plan to disrupt the redemptive plan of God will be to counterfit God. Satan forms a counterfit, unholy trinity of Satan, the Anti-christ, and the false prophet. [Rev. 12:3-4; 13:1-2, 11-17] This is his attempt to blind the world to the true Kingdom God, represented by God The Father, The Son (Jesus), and The Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ was sent to the world by God the Father, so that the world through him might be saved. The earthly ministry of Jesus was to teach and preach about the Kingdom of God, and to heal every disease and sickness among the people. Large crowds followed Jesus because of the miraculous healings. [Matt. 4:23-25] Jesus taught and preached with authority and the power of the Holy Spirit; his ministry was motivated by compassion for people. [Matt 14:14]

    REVELATION 13
    (Continued)

Revelation 13:5-7 The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty two months. He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation.. [NIV]

The beast (Anti-christ) appears to be in a subordinant position, as one who has been given authority and power to act on behalf of another. In Revelation 13:2 the Scriptures reveal that the dragon (Satan himself) gave his power, his throne, and great authority to the beast. Both the dragon (Satan) and the beast are subordinant to the LORD, God Almighty; who has given them permission to operate on earth unchecked for forty two months. This will occur in the second half of the Tribulation Period; last 3.5 years, last 1260 days of the end of the age.

The beast will be given a mouth and empowered to hurl insults against God, to smear his name and character, to defame heaven and all who dwell there. The beast, who will be incarnated by Satan, will be given power to wage war against the saints of God, and defeat them in battle. The saints will be those on earth during the second half of the Tribulation who turn to God. Many hold the opinion that the rapture or catching away of the Church occurred before this period of events. This would include those who support the pre-tribulation or mid-tribulation point of view.

The beast (Anti-christ) will have unchallenged authority over all inhabitants on earth during the second half of the Tribulation Period. This is Daniel's 70th week, the last 7 years, specifically the last 3.5 years of the 70th week.

    REVELATION 13
    (Continued)

Revelation 13:8-10 And all the people who belong to this world worshiped the beast. They are the one's whose names were not written in the Book of Life, which belongs to the Lamb who was killed before the world was made.

9 Anyone who is willing to hear should listen and understand.

10 The people who are destined for prison will be arrested and taken away. Those who are destined for death will be killed. But do not be dismayed, for here is your opportunity to have endurance and faith. [NLT]

The beast (Anti-christ) and his satanic kingdom will be the ruling power during the last 3.5 years of the Tribulation Period. There are two grouping of people identified in Revelation 13:8 , those belonging to the world, and those belonging to the Lamb. The inclusion of one's name in the Lamb's Book of Life appears to be the determining factor.

The idea (concept) of pre-destination is seen in the above verses of scripture, and supported in other parts of the Bible. God is omniscient, all knowing.

*The Lamb was slain before the world was made (Rev. 13:8)
*He was slain before the foundations of the earth. (I Peter 1:19-20)
*Jesus' arrest for crucifiction was pre-determined (Acts 2:23)
*The election of saints was pre-destined (I Peter 1:2)
*God foreknew His people, those He called, those He justified ((Romans 8:29-20)
*Israel was foreknown of God (Romans 11:2)
*Heathen to be justified by faith foreknown of God (Galatians 3:8)

In Revelation 13:9, the message is being directed to anyone who will listen, hear, and understand. This is a very similar charge given to the seven churches of Revelation 1-3. The Church is not mentioned now and is presumed raptured. The saints mentioned at this period of time, are those who were left behind, those who will be saved during the last 3.5 years (1260 days) of the end of the age.

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Acts 2:21 And anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. [NLT]

The idea of predestination is mentioned in Revelation 13:10 , in regards to the end time saints. As Jesus Christ was predestined to be imprisoned and crucified for the sins of the world; there will be end-time saints predestined for imprisonment and death. They are told not to be dismayed, as this is their opportunity to have endurance and faith. [NLT]

Here is the patience and faith of the saints. [ Rev. 13:10 KJV]

James teaches on the benefits of endurance being built through tested faith, that can be an opportunity for joy. [James 1:2-3 NLT]

    REVELATION 13
    (Continued)

Revelation 13:11-12 Then I saw another beast come up out of the earth. He had two horns like those of a lamb, and he spoke with the voice of a draon. He exercised all the authority of the first beast. And he required all the earth and those who belong to this world to worship the first beast, whose death-wound had been healed. [NIV]

This third beast is the False Prophet, the third member of the satanic trinity. He arises out of the earth; some interpret his point of origin to mean he will be an apostate religious leader. This would be a religious leader who has turned from the truth of God's word. He will try to deceive the world with his lamb-like appearance, but his mouth will reveal his true nature (that of a dragon).

The counterfeit trinity consist of Satan (the dragon), the Anti-christ (1st beast), and the False Prophet (2nd beast). Satan seeks to imitate God by forming this satanic tri-part kingdom to control and subdue mankind. Satan is a counterfeit of God the Father; the Anti-christ is a counterfeit of Jesus Christ; and the False Prophet is a counterfeit of the Holy Spirit.

Satan will completely control political, military, religious, and economic systems world wide; to control mankind during the second half of the Tribulation Period. The Anti-christ will focus on the political and military control of the world; and the False Prophet will focus on rhe religious and economic control of the world. Both of them will be under the direct control and influence of Satan.

The False Prophet has been given authority from Satan, just as Anti-christ had been given. He is an enforcer, requiring all inhabitants of the earth and all who belong to this world, to worship Anti-christ. Earth's inhabitants will also include those who have turned to Jesus Christ, during the last 1260 days (3.5 years) of the Tribulation Period. Mankind will have two choices; accept and worship Anti-christ, who was miraculously healed; or turn to Jesus Christ and die.

Revelation 13:13-15 He did astounding miracles, such as making fire flash down to earth from heaven while everyone was watching. And with all the miracles he was allowed to perform on behalf of the first beast, he deceived all the people who belong to this world. He ordered the people of the world to make a great statue of the first beast, who was fatally wounded and then came back to life. He was permitted to give life to this statue so that it could speak. Then the statue commanded that anyone refusing to worship it must die.

The performance of miracles does not make one God or a child of God. The Apostle Paul had asked the Galatians who had cast a spell on them........or did God give them the Holy Spirit or work miracles based on their own works. [Galatians 5:1-7] The ministry work of Jesus on earth was to teach, preach, and heal; with authority and miraculous power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus performed many miracles, and his motivation was compassion and love. Jesus came to give his life as a ransome for many.

Here we see the False Prophet (2nd beast), performing many miracles for attention, to glorify Anti-christ (the 1st beast), and with the purpose to deceive mankind. He acted as an enforcer, requiring the people of the world to build a statue, in the image of Anti-christ. He pointed to the miraculous healing of Anti-christ from a fatal wound.

He is a counterfeit of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit leads and guides and points to Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is a perfect gentleman, never forcing anyone to do anything. The Holy Spirit is easily grieved, and will leave when offended.

The False Prophet was permitted by God to give the statue life, enabling the statue to speak; God allowed the counterfeit trinity to operate unchecked during the second half of the Tribulation Period. Then, the statue (the living image of Anti-christ) demanded worship. Anyone who refused to worship the image of Anti-christ must die. How much of a contrast is seen in God, the Son, and the Holy Spirit to this counterfeit trinity. In God there is life, and that more abundantly. In Satan there is death, and deception.

The False Prophet will deceive those who belong to the world through miraculous signs and wonders. He points to Anti-christ who was miraculously healed of a deadly wound. Those belonging to the world willingly and gladly worship the beast (Anti-christ). Jesus had warned many of a coming time of false christs and false prophets, meant to deceive, requiring even the very elect to be on guard. [Matthew 24:24-25]

Revelation 13:16-18 He required everyone - great and small, rich and poor, slave and free - to be given a mark on the right hand or on the forehead. And no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name. Wisdom is needed to understand this. Let the one who has understanding solve the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666.

He, the False Prophet (the enforcer), will require or force all of earth's inhabitants to receive a mark. The mark will be placed on their right hand or on their forehead. Without this mark, the person will not be able to buy or sell anything. This would include food, water, clothing, houses, land, healthcare services, or anything. They would be barred from participating economically. This mark would enable the satanic kingdom to monitor the movements of every inhabitant on the face of the earth.

The scripture indicates that wisdom and understanding are needed to understand the mark, the name of the beast, or the number representing his name. The number of the beast, is the number of a man, and his number is 666.

Many have speculated that the mark will be an implanted chip, that carries complete information on the person. The chip would contain the identifier of the beast, his name or number. The number 6 is the number of man; the number 3 is the divine number; the 3 sixes (666) could represent man's attempt to be God. In the study of numerology, each number and their total, represents a letter. There remains questions as to the name of Anti-christ will use Greek, Hebrew, or another letter system.

    Default Re: REVELATION (Part 2)

    REVELATION 13
    (Continued)

    SUMMARY POINTS

Revelation Chapter 13 is a continuation and amplification of events that occurred in the 12th Chapter of Revelation. The large red dragon (Satan), was standing before the woman (Israel) waiting for the male child (the Messiah) to be born, so that he could devour the child. [Rev. 12:3-4] But God made a way of escape for the woman, after the child was snatched away to heaven. [Rev.12:5-6]

The dragon was infuriated with the woman, after making another attempt to destroy her, but she escaped. The dragon (Satan) declared war against the rest of the children of the woman [Rev 12:15-17] The New Living Translation [NLT] version of the Bible ends with verse 18......"Then he stood waiting on the shore of the sea." He, is interpreted in this version as Satan himself (the dragon).

Revelation 13 introduces two beasts, one arising from the sea (Anti-christ) [Rev. 13:1-10]; and one arising from the earth (the False Prophet) [Rev. 13:11-17] Hence, the final battle plan of Satan is mounted againt the Kingdom of God. The dragon (Satan), the Anti-christ, and the False Prophet form an end-time unholy trinity to counterfeit the Kingdom of God.

The Anti-christ is identified in Revelation 13:18 as a man, whose number is 666. There has been broad speculation as to the identity of this man. Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia, approaches "the number or name of the beast" as it relates to Revelation, based on at least three major points of reference. Major interpretation views were considered for preterist, idealist, and futurist. Interpretations were also considered using gematria (letters in Hebrew), and by using isopsephy (letters in Greek). A third major point of reference was numerical significance for such groups as, Baha i, Jehovah's Witnesses, Kabbalah (Judaism).

This attached link references the Wikipedia article for review. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_the_Beast
