    REVELATION 6:9-11------ REVELATION 15

End time ministry, that occuring during the Tribulation Period, the last seven years of the end of the age, during Daniel's 70th week. This ministry was attributed to the 144,000, the Two Witnesses, and the Three Angels. The Church is not mentioned among the end time agents of evangelism. Many are of the opinion that the Church has been raptured either before the Tribulation Period started or during the first half of the period. There are others that hold the opinion that the Church will go through much of the Tribulation Period. Matthew 24 gives a comprehensive description of end time events explained by Jesus. Many of the issues addressed by Jesus in Matthew 24 are also mentioned in Revelation. Jesus emphasized that the day and hour of his return was unknown, and to watch, pray, and be ready.

During the first half of the Tribulation Period, martyred saints were pictured as being under the alter, after the 5th seal was opened by the Lamb. (Revelation 6:9-11) These saints asked God, "how long until our blood is avenged?" They were told until the number of their brothers who were to be killed as they were was completed.

The ministry agents during the first half of the Tribulation were the 144,000 who were sealed and set apart by God. (Rev. 7:1-8) A multitude of martyred saints is mentioned again in Revelation 7:9-17, after the 144,000 were sealed. They are described as standing before the Lamb and the throne of God. (Rev. 7:9, 13-14).

Sometime during the first half to the mid-point of the Tribulation Period, the Two Witnesses were ministry agents. (Rev. 11:1-14). Following the completion of their ministry to earth's inhabitants, their death, resurrection, and ascension into heaven; the second half of the Tribulation began. This will occur just before the sounding of the seventh trumpet. (Rev. 11:15)

During the second half of the Tribulation Period the beast will be given authority over all inhabitants of the earth. Suffering and martyred saints will be encouraged to endure patiently. (Rev. 13:5-10) Three angels will be the ministry agents during the second half of the Tribulation. (Rev.14:6-13)

Martyred saints are once again pictured, this time standing on what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire. They were described as being victorious over the beast, his image, and the number of his name. They had remained faithful to the LORD, and endured patiently.(Rev.15:2-4)

Revelation 15 This chapter concludes with the seven angels, with the seven last plagues, preparing to pour out the seven bowl judgements of God. Revelation 16, 17, and 18 depict an intense unfolding of great tribulation on earth. Scenes of unimaginable suffering and cataclysmic events are described throughout these three chapters.

The response of mankind to these events will be great anger, cursing God, and refusal to repent. These events will occur in the last half of the Tribulation Period.

    REVELATION 16

Revelation 16:1-2 Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, "Go, pour out the seven bowls of God's wrath on the earth."

The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly and painful sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. [NIV]

Revelation chapter 15 ended with the seven angels preparing to pour out the seven bowls of God's wrath. These are the last of a series of 3 sets of 7 judgements of God, that increase in intensity, and complete the wrath of God. Revelation chapter 16 depicts the seven angels pouring out each of the seven bowl judgements.

The purpose of the seven bowl judgements will not be to move humanity towards God, but to demonstrate God's wrath on mankind. This purpose is similar to the stated purpose of God concerning Pharoah of Egypt. "But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." [Exodus 9:16 NIV]

In Revelation 16:1 the seven angels are issued the command to pour out the seven bowls of God's final complete wrath.

Revelation 16:2 shows the first angel pouring out his bowl, this resulted in hideous and painful sores breaking out on all accepting the mark of the beast. This plague is similar to the 6th of 10 plagues that afflicted the Egyptians (boils). [Exodus 9:8-12]

A pattern of increasing intensity is seen in the three sets of seven judgements of God throughout Revelation. The 7 Seal Judgements (Rev. 6, 8:1-5) occurs in the first half of the Tribulation. The sounding of the 7 Trumpets (Rev. 8:6-13, 9:1-21, 11:15-19) also occurs in the first half of the Tribulation. The final set of 7 Bowl judgements of God occurs in the second half of the Tribulation Period.

Some similarities in the pattern of the plagues can be seen between the three sets of seven in Revelation; as well as the ten plagues of Egypt in Exodus. These patterns will be discussed as each of the last seven angels pour out their bowls.

Thanks, Ava, I have really been enjoying these and you are doing a fantastic job IMHO. I sure hope I don't have to endure the majority of these judgements.

    Thank you Ropegg.

The Church does not appear to be present during this period of time. The agents of evangelism are the 144,000, and the Two Witnesses during the first half of the Tribulation. Three angels are the agents of evangelism during the second half of the Tribulation.

The end-time saints will be either martyred, or in hiding during these events.

The plagues mentioned here are to occur during the second half of the Tribulation. I would not want to experience any of them.

    REVELATION 16
    (Contiued)

Revelation 16:3-7 And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man; and every lving soul died in the sea.

    (4) And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.

    (5) And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou has judged thus.

    (6) For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets.............

    (7) And I heard another out of the alter say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgements. [KJV]

The second and third angels are depicted pouring out their bowls upon the sea, rivers, and fountains of water; and they became blood. God will send these judgements upon the face of the earth because of the shed blood of the saints and prophets.

In verse 5, the angel of the water addresses the Lord as being Lord of the present, past, and future. In verse 7, another voice out of the alter spoke in agreement, addressing the Lord as Lord God Almighty, and called His judgements true and righteous.

In Revelation 1:1 "The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him........sent and signified by his angel unto his servant John." This introductory statement indicates that the purpose of the Book of Revelation is to reveal Jesus Christ and his plan of redemption for mankind and the earth. "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty." [Revelation 1:8 KJV]

The second and third bowl judgements turned the waters into blood; this plague also occured after the sounding of the second trumpet (Revelation 8:8-9). The first of ten plagues on Egypt involved the turning of the Nile River into blood. (Exodus 7:14-24) This plague impacted not only their main source of water, the Nile River, but their streams, ponds, pools, and vessels of wood and stone that held water.

The waters were rendered undrinkable and unusable by the Egyptians; as well as by the inhabitants on earth during the Tribulation Period.

In the Gospel of John, the first recorded miracle of Jesus, was turning water into wine. [John 2:1-11] Jesus later went on to establish the ordinance of communion; with the elements of bread, to represent his body to be broken; and the elements of wine, to represent his blood to be shed for the sins of many. [Matthew 26:26-28, Mark 14:22-24, Luke 22:14-20]

The Prophet Isaiah reveals a clear prophesy of the crucifiction of Jesus Christ and the work of the cross. The work of the cross accomplished not only the remission of sin, but healing for the whole person (spirit, mind, body, soul, and the emotions). [Isaiah 53]

    REVELATION 16
    (Continued)

Revelation 16:8-9 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory. [KJV]

The plague of great heat that will come upon mankind during the second half of the Tribulation Period, is a foreshadow of the coming eternal heat of the lake of fire. Man's response will be great anger at God; and cursing the name of God. Mankind's stance during this time will be one of war, not of repentance.

This great heat will result in scorching discomfort for earth's inhabitants; it will also result in droughts, crop failures, and the loss of live stock. Water, which was turned to blood, will be undrinkable and unusable. The intense heat, thirst, and hunger will add to the pain from the hideous boils.

Many may reason that mankind is understandably angry with God. Power over the plagues belongs to God; who responds to repentance, not anger. This will be a difficult period of time for earth's inhabitants.

    REVELATION 16
    (Continued)

Revelation 16:10-11 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, (11) And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds. [KJV]

The fifth angel's vial (bowl) was aimed at the throne of the beast; this plunged his kingdom into darkness. This darkness was thick, heavy, oppressive, and complete. No one would be able to see anyone else. This darkness would intensify the anquish from the sores (boils) and from the pain, being suffered by earth's inhabitants.

The plague of darkness also occured earlier in Revelation, after the sounding of the fourth trumpet. After the fourth angel had sounded his trumpet; a third of the sun, moon, and stars were struck; and this resulted in darkness. (Revelation 8:12)

The plague of darkness afflicted the land of Egypt, because of the hardness of Pharoah's heart, and his refusal to let God's people go and worship Him. (Exodus 10:21-23) It was brought out that all the Israelites had light in their homes (Ex 10:23).

Mankind's response to the pain, sores, and the darkness will be to curse God and refuse to repent. This is the second recorded incident in Revelation 16, of how those serving the kingdom of the beast will respond to God. Pharoah of Egypt had also demonstrated a refusal to repent, even though Egypt was on the brink of destruction.

    REVELATION 16
    (Continued)

Revelation 16:12-16 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East.

    (13) Then I saw three evil spirits that looked like frogs, they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

    (14) They are spirits of demons performing miraculous signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for battle on the great day of God Almighty.

    (15) Behold, I come like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed.

    (16) Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. [NIV]

These passages of scripture depict the sixth angel pouring out his bowl (vial) on the Euphrates River. This is the second mention of the Euphrates River playing a role in end time events in the Book of Revelation. After the sixth angel had sounded his trumpet, towards the end of the first half of the Tribulation, a voice from the horns of the golden alter spoke to the sixth angel. The voice told the sixth angel who blew his trumpet, to release the four angels from the Euphrates River, that had been prepared for that day, to kill 1/3 of mankind. [Revelation 9:13-21]

The waters of Euphrates were dried up to prepare the way for the kings of the East. This event sounds similar to the parting of the Red Sea, so that the children of Israel could pass over on dry ground while fleeing from the Egyptians, under the leadership of Moses. [Exodus 14:15-31] Also similar to the the parting of the Jordan River, so that the children of Israel could pass over on dry ground, in order to take possession of the Promised Land. [Joshua 3--4] The correlation between the events of the Red Sea and the Jordan River were expressed in Joshua 4:23-24.

The expression "kings from the East" have been looked at from the futurist point of view in two main ways. The points of view the kings of the East either coming to oppose anti-christ or assist him in warfare against God. Daniel prophesies concerning end times and the anti-christ at war with the kings of the East, in an effort to consolidate his world power. [Daniel 11:35-44] This would support the futurist point of view that the kings of the East came to oppose anti-christ.

The second point of view of the futurists seems to be supported by [Revelation 16:13-14, 16] Verses 13-14 state that three evil spirits, that looked like frogs, came out of the mouths of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet (the unholy trinity). Frogs were among creatures living in waters that were classified as unclean for consumption. [Leviticus 11:9-10] Frogs were the second of ten plagues sent against the Egyptians. [Exodus 8:1-15]

The three evil spirits performed miracles, and through the miraculous signs will be able to get the support of the kings of the world (verse 14). The anti-christ, the kings of the whole world, and all of mankind will gather at Armageddon to do battle with God Almighty. [Rev16:16]

Armageddon, also known as the Mountain of Megiddo; first mentioned as one of the cities conquered by Joshua [Joshua 12:21] Josiah, a beloved and righteous king was killed in battle at Megiddo [2 kings 23:29-30] The Prophet Zechariah prophesies concerning the future weeping to occur in the plain of Megiddo by Jerusalem, as "they mourn for the One they have pierced". [Zechariah 12:10-11]

Revelation 16:15 that is depicted in red, are the warning and blessing proclaimed by Jesus Christ. This warning is for the saints of God, during the end times and throughout the ages, to remain alert and watchful, continuing in faith and obedience to God, and fully clothed (prepared) for the return of Christ. A blessing is promised to all who remain faithful during the Tribulation Period and throughout the ages.

    REVELATION 16
    (Continued)

Revelation 16:17-21 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, "It is done!"

    (18) Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since man has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake.

    (19) The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath.

    (20) Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found.

    (21) From the sky huge hail stones of about a hundred pounds each fell upon men. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible. [NIV]

The seventh and final angel, of the third set of seven angels, has poured out his bowl (vial) of the judgement and wrath of God. The loud voice coming from the throne was probably that of God. The voice proclaimed loudly, "It is done!" (vs 17) The judgement of God is completed. After the seventh angel had sounded his trumpet, loud voices in heaven proclaimed "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ...." [Revelation 11:15] This signified completion of the purpose of God to translate ruling power from the kingdom of darkness to His Kingdom of Light.

Following this heavenly proclamation, a severe earthquake occurs, exceeding any earthquake known to mankind (Rev. 16:18). After the seventh angel of the second set of seven angels, had sounded his trumpet, an exact scene of an earthquake was described. ".......And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a great hailstorm." [Revelation 11:19]

Also, after the seventh angel of the first set of seven angels, had opened the seventh seal and seven trumpets were given to the seven angels; ...."Another angel..... took fire from the alter and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake". [Rev. 8:1-5]

Flashes of lightning........thunder........blazing are concepts that symbolize the awesome, majestic, power of God. "From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God." [Rev. 4:5] In Revelation thunder and lightning signify important heavenly events. [Rev. 8:5; 11:19; 16:18] Catastrophic earthquakes and hailstorms occurred after the three "seventh angels" discharged their judgements [Rev. 8:5; 11:19; 16:18, 21]

This severe earthquake will be more catastrophic than any ever known to mankind. We are horrified when we hear of a county, state(s), regions, or nations heavily damaged by earthquakes or other natural disasters. This earthquake will split "the great city" into three parts and level the other cities of the world. There will be worldwide devastation and destruction.

The great city is described in Revelation 17; and is symbolized by the woman on the beast. [Revelation 17:18] God remembered the deeds of the great city, Babylon the Great, the great prostitute; and gave her the cup of His complete wrath [Rev. 16:19]

This earthquake will be so severe that every island will flee and the mountains will not be found. [Rev. 16:20] With the opening of the sixth seal, a great earthquake had occurred. "The sun turned black....the whole moon turned blood red....stars fell to the earth the sky rolled up like a scroll.....and every mountain and island was removed from its place." [Revelation 6:12-14]

The Prophet Joel speaks of the Day of the Lord......."The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord." [Joel 2:31] Jesus spoke explicitly concerning signs of the end of the age, including this sign which would precede His coming. [Matthew 24:29-31; Luke 21:25-28; Mark 13:24-27]

To compound the terror occuring on earth, huge hail stones, weighing about 100 pounds each will be falling from the sky upon mankind. The plague of hail stones will be so terrible, that mankind will curse God. This is the third occurrance in Revelation 16 where men were documented as cursing God.

The plague of heavy hail (Exodus 9:18) and fire & hail (Exodus 9:24) was the 7th plague sent by God against Pharoah and Egypt. [Exodus 9:13-35] After the first of seven angels sounded his trumpet, there came hail and fire mixed with blood. [Rev. 8:7]

Mankind along with the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet appear ready for full warfare with God.
