Those orchids are amazing. I have a few, but they are either 'resting' for the moment (I only have a window sill in the house for them) or I have killed them. Time will tell. One question if you don't mind: should I remove the dried flower stem or just leave it all alone?

Super pics of your Orchid flowers Old, Mother Nature excelled herself designing those little beauties!

Meebs, good question. We are never quite sure what to do when the flowers have died down.
I researched on google and found this - http://faq.gardenweb.com/discussions...e-spike-or-not

Doesn't seem to help much, so maybe Old will be able to enlighten us since he is the expert!

Another wet start to the day, but still grateful for the mild temperatures for this time of year. Dreading the frosts when they arrive, all Plumerias have to be taken indoors to have their winter sleep!
I now have a task - About a month ago I bought a personalised Peppa Pig card for Abigail's 4th birthday and I have lost it. It's somewhere in my 'office/junk room' - I spent an hour yesterday hunting through drawers, boxes etc. but no luck. Trying to find the will power to start hunting again, no doubt everything will end up in a huge pile that resembles a bomb site.

Glad you all like the flowers

    Good question meebs:
Some orchids, such as the ones discussed in that link, can re-bloom on an old flower spike.
They will usually remain green firm & or fleshy however, even if they have no blooms. Leave them intact if you want the chance of more flowers.
Most orchid spikes will naturally die, go brown & wither after the flowers drop, these can be removed for aesthetic purposes (assuming no seed pods are developing) although it doesn't hurt to leave them well enough alone!

I'm guessing your plants are going into their winter rest period - down here, we are now well into our spring/summer growth period & time to pump the fertilizer into them.
    Hope this helps.

Thank you. I shall continue to remove the ugly dry bits. I have never cut anything that looks still alive, so that's ok

While I woke up to a light covering of the white stuff, my friend up North posted this pic - reports have them at 6-8 inches.

OK, so it's Friday, but where did Thursday go?
I am sure that I made a post here yesterday, but probably forgot to send it.
It was one of those days yesterday which started bad and then went downhill.
But I survived and back on track

Mmmm.. those croissants sure look good, thanks Pos - don't mind if I do!
Superb choon to go with my early elevenses (I've been up for ages, still haven't adjusted to the hour going back yet!)
Glad to hear that you survived the traumas of yesterday.

Thanks for the orchid advice Old, and Wyo take care driving in that snow! There would be chaos here if we got a few inches of snow - schools closed, trains cancelled, roads blocked. I guess we just aren't used to coping with that strange white stuff around these parts!

I just scanned in and emailed an acceptance of an offer on my apartment house - Ta Da! A bit lower than I was asking, but I will soon be FREE!!!! of that responsibility.
