The only time the state should pay people to have kids is when the population needs restocking after a major war.

Any other time it should be paid on a needs basis along with other assessed benefits (income support, sickness, etc.)

Otherwise, if you cannot afford kids then you shouldn't have them.

Couldn't agree more. Of course I have no kids, unless you count my kitties, but I do pay for their food and vet bills without assistance.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

I don't see the point of child benefit at all.

    Why doesn't someone scrap it?

I couldn't afford any of my kids but once they were here they were mine to take care of, not the governments. We fed them clothed them and did all the things necessary. We did a funny thing at our house if they wanted something we couldn't pay for they got a job. Didn't do any of them any great harm. They all 4 have great work ethics and they appreciate the things they have.

Now that works, in fact it's not far off the way I was raised meself, not that I'm any great shakes, but I am self supporting, (for the moment anyhow).

Best wishes for many sales to all,

Does the US have a similar benefits system to the UK? Or is it more means tested?
