Spread your items around and use the same name on both sites to double the chance of people finding you.
I don't like ebays high fees so tend to list stuff on 99p start no reserve. The bulk of the stuff I sell I list on my own site or on ebid where the fee structure means that even if items don't sell it works as some sort of advert,I dont use run till sold though as I think that smacks of desperation and gives the site a run down look.
The answer is to try different methods and find one that works for you.

I list my items in multiple places, even if I only have one of the item. I'm just coming up to 5 years of online selling and as far as I can recall, I've only once sold something I've only got one of at the same time. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I'm online a lot as this is my fulltime job so can keep reasonably on top of my sales.

You just have to decide if you're prepared to take the risk.

How's things down there in the San Luis Valley? Did you get the snow on Monday too?

I list around but only double list items I have alot of the same of. I don't have too many of those.

I do list my heavy items on the Boulder and Denver Craigslist as local pickup only. I've had people drive from Nebraska to pick stuff up.

We did get a bit of snow, but the real problem was the wind! I had to tie the chickens to a fence post

cambsmills, I understand. I am online a lot too because I work online and I can keep an eye on multiple sites frequently. Some sites don't want you to close auctions early though. That might be a consideration for me.

I list on ebay, ebid, amazon and my own website.
I have not yet had a problem with selling more of one item than I have got!
To counter the difference that different sites fee levels have on my profit margin, I vary my prices and postage charges, eg higher price on amazon and ebay than on ebid, and free postage on website sales.
I would say that it seems to work, but I have nothing to compare this all to really.

I must say though that I am surprised by the fact the people do buy through one route without even checking that another (cheaper) route may exist...
