Default Please nominate a charity for YDC100

The result of the recent poll was to run YDC100 as a "stand alone" YDC.

To start the next stage in the process.........

Would everyone (who wishes to) please suggest ONE charity / good cause to be the nominated charity for YDC100.

This list will be open for one week and the suggestions will be collated into another poll, which will then decide the lucky nominee for YDC100

I will add to this post as we go, and I would like my own nomination to be Hounds For Heroes

I think that in honor of the YDC 100 everyone around the globe should be in favor of the NATIONAL RED CROSS. A charity that helps everyone in need in all countries...just MHO!

I agree this is one everyone will know about. There are possibly others but The Salvation Army is the only other one I can think of off the top of my head.

I would like to nominate Shelterbox again http://shelterbox.org/index.php as it is an international charity and having had a tour of their headquarters in Cornwall I was very impressed with what they were achiving and also their low overheads being based in a small town. They have also just formed a partnership with Rotary International.

Would like to nominate the Appalachian Community Fund, Inc. this is a publically supported grant-making organization that is providing needed resources for change, in one of the most impoverished regions of the USA. I love their motto "CHANGE, NOT CHARITY(TM). I checked out their site, certified financial statements, etc. and they seem like a sound organization.

I was somewhat troubled after watching a documentary on the region, because much of their impoverished and depressed conditions are the direct result of the benefit of natural resources the rest of the country utilizes.

    Their website link is http://appalachiancommunityfund.org/

    I would like to nominate:

    Medecins Sans Frontieres
    Doctors Without Border

MSF operates independently of any political, military, or religious agendas. Medical teams conduct evaluations on the ground to determine a population's medical needs before opening programs, aiming to fill gaps that exist (rather than replicating services that are already offered) or reach communities that are not being assisted.

The key to MSF’s ability to act independently in response to a crisis is itsindependent funding. Ninety percent of MSF's overall funding (and 100 percent of MSF-USA's funding) comes from private, non-govermental sources. In 2009, MSF had 3.8 million individual donors and private funders worldwide.

As an organization, MSF is neutral. It does not take sides in armed conflicts, provides care on the basis of need alone, and pushes for increased independent access to victims of conflict as required under international humanitarian law.

    Thank You

I am, thinking too. I'm wanting a low income, low overall % admin costs but great charitable efforts.... (preferably with assets of less than a million.... and which is unlikely to receive many, if any, bequests/legacies) - and one which doesn't spend hundreds of thousands of £/$ on wages for co-ordinators or have vast sums of donated money in investments.

I would like to think that the monies that YDC 100 made would have a huge impact on a Charity & its beneficiaries.

So I don't want to rush into making a decision about it - there is plenty of time left (a week) for me to make a decision.
