Wow, sorry to hear this but can relate; bf published a book some years ago which is still available from the publisher. Unfortunately, as it's a Christian bookseller/publisher, he's made next to nothing in over a decade. Hope your hubby's book does better than this.
Just curious, do Kindle books/e books provide authors with more readers and therefore more potential profits than traditional books, or is the subject matter more important sales-wise?
Best wishes for many sales to all,
I wouldnt say so I Have a kindle book of poetry and in 6 months ive sold just 5, all to people i know

My husband says he gets the same from a Kindle sale as from a Book sale. As his book is hideously expensive (academic books usually are), the Kindle price is still quite steep.

This is an issue that many people don't seem to understand properly. The general assumption is that eBook versions should be far cheaper. This is based on the logic that there isn't any printing, no paper costs, no shipping, no physical storage and so on. However, what these people miss is that the expensive part of any book is the contribution of humans - the writing, editing, layout, artwork, legal checks, fact checking and so on. The actual printing part of the book is a relatively low cost. So I am glad that your fella is still getting much the same level of return for both versions.
I thought I would never appreciate a Kindle, I much preferred the feel of a 'proper' book. That is until my husband bought me one for my birthday. Now I have 4 books stacked up to read on holiday, all cheaper even than the charity shop, I can read in bed with one hand,(to click next page not to follow the print with my finger!) And I even published the book that's been on the back burner for 20 years, it's sold over 700 copies to date since publishing in November. The biggest surprise of my life!. Although I still like the feel of a book and still buy one or two, Kindle does it for me.
Have to admit I don't use mine a lot - the books I want are dearer than the paperback publications and far dearer than the charities. But, I have downloaded a lot of free ones from Amazon and will get around to reading them eventually.
Jolly well done on your publication and sales.
