Please keep in mind I am bringing this up 90% as a joke.

Several decades ago, I saw a newspaper columnist's halfway tongue in cheek suggestion that an easy way to help poor people, instead of devising a complicated and sometimes too luxurious benefit system, was to simply authorize stores to give them all the dry beans and dry rice they wanted.

No one in our house ever watches TV, so we miss all these programmes and from what I read here, a good thing too.

You are what you eat. If someone is that over-wieght then they need help of one sort or another, to reduce their weight not increase it.

There are people who are obese that can help themselves with a bit of willpower, a bit like smokers. I agree we should not be paying for a carer to exacerbate the problem. They should get good quality care that helps them get better, that does not have to be more expensive to provide. Giving that carer a diet plan to follow isn't too difficult and if the patient wants to over-ride the recovery plan by eating all the wrong foods then we should have a system like we have for mentally ill patients - where they can be 'committed' for their own safety sake by close relatives (next of kin). Its a suggestion for discussion.

I'm just going to add my bit in here with regards to this subject.

Both me and a mate can eat the same things only difference is, he gets hungry 10mins later and eats again thus putting weight on, myself I can get hungry 10mins after eating, but any weight I do put on is lost within 24hrs, my weight at present is 9st 11lbs, my ideal weight is 13stone 10lbs and no matter what I eat I can't get over 10stone and keep it on. Now my mate is 24stone but his ideal weight is 10stone due to being younger than me.

I keep loosing weight and need to put it on, whatever I eat this just does not happen, I was told at one time that it's harder to put weight on rather than loose it and its true, I have been trying for 3 years craig.

LOL Ollie! Better than spilling the coffee I guess...

OK, you dragged it out of me. I agree with Craig, IMHO metabolic differences play a big role (as well as genetics) in body weight. I've been the same weight for the past 20 years despite a fairly sedentary lifestyle and a lot of eating so called junk food, while I have girlfriends who gain weight if they so much as look at a cookie or french fry.

IMHO reaching a so called ideal weight on a chart is far less important than maintaining overall good health habits.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

So many complicated factors where body weight is concerned.

It's often not as simple as calories in / calories burned. Or providing information and education.

Physical, psychological, social issues can come into play. But that's just my opinion. :-)
