    Default Internet help required

Ok you Internet experts I have problem. My connection keeps dropping. Think when I had this problem before I cured it by changing the router but this time I haven't got a spare one so will have to buy one. My question is will any router do or will I have to get the same model as I've been using.

    That is difficult to answer

It depends on your ISP and what you need to connect to it and how. We have a lot of wireless devices in our house and the standard ISP provided router could not cope with that so we had to upgrade

. Also can you be certain it is the router > Internet and not the computer to router?

    AOL (no laughing)

Have 4 things connected (1 by lead 3 by wifi)

Wifi connection drops on different things at different times. Example:- may drop on iPad but be OK on iPhone or sometimes the other way round. A couple of times, but rarely, dropped on all wifi at sametime

Router being used is Netgear ADSL router DG834G v3

That is a fairly old router then at V3. It may well be that it can't cope well with the demands of the newer Ipad wirelss types

it could be in the configuration - but it may well be simply that it can't cope with that many wireless connections at once

We had that problem with a talktalk router. As each person came hope with their phone on Wifi, it knocked someone else off. It could not cope with that number of connections. We had to upgrade to a (more expensive) better model but it took me a few weeks to convince talktalk support

Willing to buy a new router instead of arguing with a call centre in the hope of getting a free one but don't want to buy the wrong one
