I love Xmas, mostly because it's a chance for family to get together. When I was a kid it was all about the gifts, but these days it's a chance to get together with family I don't see as much as I'd like and enjoy spending time together.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

So "Family Bliss" would be a better title for you to this holiday?

It looks like I will be the "odd man out" on this thread.

I don't look forward to the commercial side of the Christmas celebration, but I do look forward to the Christian celebrations. The children putting on a special program at church is always a highlight. Carolers from another church coming by is special to us.

Our (8) grandchildren and the rest of the family getting together is always a blessing. I spend time with each of the grands in the days before Christmas, taking them shopping and letting them look at all of the toys and clothes, etc without hurrying them and then taking them out to eat and listening to all that is exciting to them.

As I am aging it is getting to be harder to do things but I still look forward to the season.

Christmas is the second most important Christian celebration for me and I wish I could escape the vile commercialisation.

It is also one of the few times when our sons are home and it is bliss being the four of us together. We don't have much else in the way of family now so there is no worrying about seeing everyone or extra travelling as there used to be.

    I love it!
There are only the three of us, so no rushing here, there and everywhere.
We have one Pagan, one Atheist and one Catholic in the house.
So it makes for interesting discussions, at the best of times.
We don't go mad over presents, but love sitting together, eating, talking, laughing and just watching the odd film or two on the DVD.
We don't do anything, or go anywhere, so to some that may sound boring, but we enjoy it.

Christmas is normally the only time all the family can get together and the only time me and the better half spend real quality time together just snuggled on the sofa watching tv and relaxing. However this year will be the 4th Christmas since our mum passed and she was always the heart of Christmas, Christmas dinner at hers etc so it's lost a lot of the magic for me.

I've also never worked over Christmas before, even leaving jobs to spend it with the family, this year my brother and sister want to scatter my mums ashes on Christmas eve, but I've got to work. I work for a Supposedly Christian charity Who are opening Christmas week, so will only be off Christmas day & boxing day. Seems even the charities are getting caught up with commercialism of it all, started selling Christmas and Halloween stuff at the beginning of September.

Would love to go back to the days when we were kids and everything closed for the week, if you didn't have you had to borrow it from someone or wait until the shops opened again.

What ever you believe or do, I hope you all have a happy and peaceful holiday and a better year ahead.

Christmas has always been stress - never a 'relaxing' holiday for me as an adult. Now a lot older - so as far as I am concerned I am quite happy to forget it - a lot more relaxing. Buy the prezzies for any of young kids in the families; older kid give money - but otherwise I really dont care.
Yes Christmas can be so stressful for us adults with all the shopping the cooking and expense. I only enjoy it when everything is done and I have the family here on Christmas day.
