It could happen in many countries, and in many time periods. Glad they got out.

Ah, but my point is there was a time not long ago when we knew who lived in this country, well at least who lived next door. We all had the same values, and spoke the same langauge (except the Welsh ).

I'm sure it seems like that sometimes, but I suspect that there have always been random spots of wierdness and isolation in this and every culture. It probably would have been harder to hide in earlier times, but deviants are not new.

Sad but all too true. When I lived in NY I didn't know most of my neighbors.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

Yes but England did not use to be like that.

It's the same around here, I have lived in this house since 1985 and know the man over the road and a couple next door to talk to sort of. there is a lady round the corner that says hello if she passes and thats it.

Oh wow, then that really does suck.

NYers do tend to keep to ourselves. It's different in the South; after fifteen years you'd think I'd be used to it when random strangers honk and say hello, but it's still a bit of culture shock.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

It will be interesting to see the details of this shocking case as they become public - as yet we only know the outlines. It may well transpire that society has a case to answer for not spotting this sooner - there have been various sad cases in the news of late which have a strong element of people not "noticing" bad things - this may be another.
