Pleased to say I still live in an old fashioned village community.

I know my neighbours, their kids, their parents, in-laws & out-laws

The downside is that you can't sneeze without someone noticing.........and before you know it.....you are at death's door with some endemic disease don't you know lol

The upside is, everyone looks out for each other.
It's quaint, but I like it.

It is a personal nightmare of mine to be one of the neighbours who didn't notice something this horrific.

Actually, it has been possible to be anonymous in London for many years (these three have been held for 30 years!).

But a bit of gossip might be a good thing now and then.

I just cannot understand how this can happen? 30 years? that's a lifetime, all those experiences and adventures that never happened, all that youth, gone. Terrible..
I know its an isolated incident and a rare occurrence, in the UK at least, but it is the price of a (mostly) free society, people must be allowed personal privacy and individuality to do as they wish and sadly there will always be extremes.
I hope they get the right help.

Take a good long look at our history. Much of the wealth of this nation was built on the backs of slaves.

Many in the government still appear (IMO) to believe that the enslavery of the working class is necessary and desirable.

While I accept your comment about wealth built on slavery (look at Bristol!), Damian, to compare not encouraging jobs which pay properly is a bit different from shutting someone into a house for 30 years.

Many areas of London have never been places to show too much of an interest in one's neighbours. Many of the most important buildings of white England have been built by money received from buying and selling slaves and a large number of white aristocrats owe their titles and wealth to the proceeds of slavery. Ignoring slavery, crime, excessive opulence, rule by a rich minority, and endemic poverty amongst the working people, England is great.

Great Britain was also the first of the major slave trading nations to ban both the trade and slavery (Denmark banned the slave trade earlier but no-one noticed!)

This is true. If only we would now destroy the poppy fields in Afghanistan and help put an end to the slavery of opium.

How many more soldiers' lives would you spend on this?

Please quote to me where I mentioned "encouraging jobs which pay properly".
