    Question Jewelry Question

Was watching a program on TV about diamonds. It stated that diamonds were polished on a flat spinning disk that used diamond dust and olive oil. Why olive oil? Would not some other cheaper oil do just as well? Just wondering.

Yes, there are many natural & synthetic oils that will, & know doubt, are doing the job.
If you have an Olive tree growing nearby, then the oil is cheap!

As for the Diamond cutting industry & the Jewellery trade in general, then I'm sure some are still using the old tried & true materials & methods.
They tend to stick to the things that work & it's very difficult to get them to change.

Not sure if I am right but wondered if it was that most diamonds were being cut by Jewish people and I am sure they have a thing about olive oil. I'm sure it is included in one of their religious events. So maybe it links to that.

I also noticed every time you see a diamond cutter on TV then they are always old jewish men, but they say that in india it is bad trade for chest problems, so maybe they use a different oil and are paying the price.

No idea if any of it is true but interesting question either way.
