We have a dollar store that sells items for around a dollar, mostly shampoos and bath items. Local thrift store sells books for 25 cents each, now there's a bargain.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

Imagine paying 50p for your keep at home these days!
I was wild a year or so later when my sister got a job at Lloyds bank on £7.00 a week
Wow - you got off cheap!
My first job after leaving school was with Simplex G.E. - I got £4 pounds and 15 shillings for 5 days and £6 for a Saturday morning as well.
My mother had £3 board from me, I had to pay my own way to work as well.
I didn't mind giving mum most of my wage, as she had my sisters to look after, and times were really hard then.

Even though I had a grammar school education with good grades, I couldn't wait for the right job to come to me, so I joined up as a milkmaid on Clover Dairies. My earnings shot up to almost £18.00 a week. I was so rich, I didn't know how to spend this fortune - but I did ... on clothes!
Also was saving for a motorbike - but I met a complete idiot that I fell for - he was 28 and I was barely 18 and I married him!
The motorbike fund was spent on our wedding in 1966.
We were divorced 14 years later .......
