My PC decided, the other day, that it couldnt play audio from the speakers when plugged into the back of the tower. I also have a front speaker plug on the tower and when I plugged into that, it worked fine again.
    Very weird.

I have not followed Damian's advice, as yesterday when I brought the laptop downstairs it was fine. I checked around in the CP sound folder and the only difference were that 2 icons were visible that had not been the day before. So I have come to the conclusion that I must have a loose component somewhere, which gets dislodges/knocked out of line when I move it. Today however it does not work again.

Sounds like kicking it might help, but i would not do that. It sounds as though you have a lose connection that only a Tech will be able to find, as he will have to go inside to the sound card, good luck
