I remember so many Chicago (Evanston) winters when I was a kid. They would flood the tennis courts around town, and we'd have skating rinks! There was a lovely pond with an island in the middle right by the lakeshore, and there was a warming hut at one end, and skating there was fabulous! Walked to and from the bus for blocks through the snow.....back when girls had to wear skirts to school. brrrrrr. One year, the snow and ice was so bad that the High School closed for the first time in it's history due to weather.............and we went ice skating in the streets!! Fun!!

Here, we have rain. The Eskimos have twenty or thirty words for snow. Here, there's just one word for rain: CONSTANT.
    Ta-Ta for now!

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it is about learning to dance in the rain.

It looks horrible the railway line hanging over rageing seas they showed it at lunch time here

We had very heavy rain & hail lunch time so Rex got a shorter walk than usual as the car park where we go was flooded & its been rainning on & off ever since the roads weren't to bad but the fields are flooded.

    Typical Chicago winter.
You are a few hours behind us. We got the heavy snows, winds and 10* yesterday. It was 1* at 7 AM today and it looks like the snow is over but more is in the forecast. Schools and business are shut down yesterday and today. The University shut down and that is almost unheard of.

    Hi all.

Gale force winds here, some trees down, my roof has decided to leak straight into my little sons ceiling so I have spent the day rearranging his bedroom so his bed doesn't get wet again.

But more worried about my other son who's been on a school trip and is meant to of been on the 5 'o'clock ferry from calais to dover !

Heard nothing from him or the school so I am hoping that 'no news is good news'

    Stay safe all.

Same up here in Yorkshire, very wet and windy as it has been for the last 2 month.
No sign of any snow either, so no "snow day" at school!!! Lot to answer , this weather.
Really bad down south I feel really sorry for those who are flooded and have been for the last 7 weeks (or longer)
    Must be awful.
Some spring flowers are starting to come through in the mud patch which is my garden!

Need some snow soon, but none on any forecast (for the UK anyhow)

    Cheers Alan

He is feeling a bit unwell as it was ( in his words ) ' a bit rocky ' and 'took a long time ' !

Anyway so happy he is ok, hopefully he will be back by 10.

    Hope everyone is doing ok.

Oh - Julie! That must have been really worrying for you............glad he is back safely, even if a bit green. Sorry about your leak...I hope it doesn't do any permanent damage. And it sounds like it's going to be nasty weather for awhile, so hardly prime time to be up on a roof....

I'm not sure what the official report is but I'm looking at 8" of new snow to shovel.

I've just watched the news about the destruction in Cornwall and Devon. It's an absolute tragedy.

All the beautiful places we have visited over the years being destroyed. People losing their livelihood's and their homes. Fishermens' boats smashed like match sticks, harbour defences somewhere at the bottom of the sea. Watching those fishermen so close to tears was so very sad.

Porthleven Harbour breached and vulnerable. Beesands, Torbay, Torcross, Dawlish, and one of my most favourite places, Slapton, which is extremely vulnerable having only a spit of land between it, the houses, the freshwater Ley and the sea.

A woman crying because she and her family are having to leave their home in Somerset and watch it go under the water. It's truly heartbreaking!

Edited to say: if anyone isn't familiar with Slapton, it's where Exercise Tiger took place in 1944.
