But Tony. Like almost everyone else in the country you've missed one very important point.

They haven't actually promised any new powers. All they've promised to do is to start a talking shop that may or may not come up with anything even remotely worthwhile.

The only person to have promised anything is Gordon Brown and, as a backbench MP, he's in no position to guarantee anything.

• The NHS is already fully devolved so they can't do anything about that.
• The ability to vary income tax has already passed into law and will be implemented in 2016
• The only welfare change being proposed is the removal of housing benefit from the new Universal credit, and most people consider this to be, to all intents and purposes, impossible.

In order to actually achieve DevoMax, as everyone appears to be now calling the plans, they must at the very least all agree to the following:

Full devolution of income tax, capital gains and inheritance taxes.
Devolution of corporation tax.
A percentage of income from oil revenue

Unfortunately, they can't even agree at the moment to devolve Air Passenger Duty, so the chances of DevoMax ever happening seem remote at best.

Not sure how true it is, but rumours are starting to emerge that they're trying to exclude the SNP from the committees because of their tiny presence at Westminster. If it is true, there are going to be a lot of unhappy people.

Saw the vote on TV, I was surprised and pleased to see so many interested and active voters, a much better turnout than we have over here, even for presidential elections, but then again this was a major event. I'll admit I'm a little sorry the referendum didn't pass, I'm not sure why, but hopefully the people of Scotland will get something out of the deal besides talk.
