What pleasant sentiments.

The other side of the coin is that there is only one Tory MP from Scotland at present. Out of fifty nine Scottish MPs at the Palace of Westminster, there is only one Tory MP. Independence would mean that Scotland would never have to suffer Tory policies again that it never voted for.

No more Scottish MPs at Westminster = no more Scottish oil money to bail out an under performing English economy. That would be very painful for England.

As the old saying goes, be careful what you wish for.

Good, thats 50 odd less Labour MPs,

Miliband's hot-footing it up there next week, and taking a bunch of Welsh MPs with him. Must be desperate times for Labour

He's also promised to erect a giant fence across the country, to keep the Scots out of England, if they go for independence.

Reports of very nasty anti-English nationalism, often directed at people who have lived there for years, but were born in England.

I wonder if anyone has given much thought to what happens afterwards, whichever way the vote goes?

It's hard to believe that all those who believe they are oppressed by the English will go quiet if they lose the vote. And how will they react to the ones that voted that way?

If the Yes campaign is successful, I suppose we English will have to find someone else to oppress. And the Scots will have to find someone else to blame for their problems.

I don't follow either, Tony is usually asking about the polls, and as soon as one points towards a yes vote it is only a sample.
