Righty... Latest poll results from Survation on behalf of the Daily Mail.

    With undecideds removed it's: Yes 47% (+4), No 53% (-4)

No random facts this time round as the poll questions were fairly run of the mill. So instead it's just a point regarding the 2011 Scottish Elections.

In the election that year, during the last three weeks of campaigning, the SNP reversed an even larger gap than that to secure an overall majority. Something that the Scottish system was specifically designed to prevent.

With 3 weeks to go, this one is heading back into "too close to call" territory.

I see Paul MacCartney has come out (?) in favour of the No campaign.

Couple that with Miley Cyrus and Basil Brush, and the Yes campaign is doomed.

It's a great pity that the YES campaign can't come up with intellectuals like this, to add a bit of gravitas to the debate.

    With regard to post #667…….

The Scottish people need to be able to cut through all the smoke and mirrors and get straight to the heart of the matter.

They need to keep just two things in mind regarding oil.

    1. Oil is a commodity that is going to be in demand for a long time yet and Scotland has a lot of it.

    2. In a previous posting I made reference to the need for the Western powers not to misjudge the Russian reaction to the western sponsored coup in Ukraine. The latest sound bytes coming from the USA indicate that the American politicians are completely out of touch with the reality that the Eastern Ukrainians democratically voted for self rule and cannot take themselves out of Cold War #1 mentality and intend to escalate the stakes militarily. The West are now on the verge of pushing over President Putin’s red lines and the result will be moving on from the current new Cold War #2 to a military war with the Russian Federation. Russia is the world’s largest oil and gas producer and when the shooting starts the EU that supported the coup should not be surprised when the oil and gas pipes from Russia get turned off. When that happens the price of oil and gas in Europe will go sky high. There will be so much bad feeling from Russia about the West breaking Ukraine that there will be no easy kiss and make up and the oil and gas relationship between Russia and the EU will be forever changed. Scotland will be in a very strong position vis a vis her oil and gas sector.

Those of us who are old enough and whose memories are good enough will remember when an English Prime Minister who had decided to close down the Upper Clyde shipyards and devastate the economy of the West of Scotland intended not to attend the debate in the House of Commons about the closures because it was more of a priority for him go yacht sailing around the Isle of Wight. He only attended the debate because his civil servants tapped him on the shoulder and told him how bad it would look if he were not there. The lesson from this and other situations is that the Scottish people cannot rely upon people south of the border and have to make sure that they hold all the key levers to keep their society safe and intact.

Scotlands economy does not rest solely on oil. We have fantastic university facilities that regularly turn out 1st class reseach. Our tourism industry goes from strength to strength and we are well equipped to deal with it.

I am originally from the West Coast and I remember the dire days of the 70's and 80's. 3 day weeks, constant power cuts, miner's strikes, sit ins at factories. The area recovered a little by turning to technology and electrics but even those have gone now.
An independant Scotland can broker it's own deals to bring industry back to Scotland and our brilliant education system can teach our future generations best for working in them.

For me my YES vote for for my children and my children's children.
