Still a lot of the English do not get it. The tax raised per head of population in Scotland that goes to HM Treasury in London is more than the tax money spent per head of population in Scotland. Even though the tax per head spend is higher in Scotland than in England, net tax from Scottish oil and gas subsidises the Government finances for England. In the event of a Yes vote, the English will have a nasty hole in the Westminster Government finances because the tax money from Scottish oil and gas will be going to Edinburgh, not London.

Scotland subsidises England, not the other way around.

There is a good chance that net economic migration will be from England to Scotland in due course and not the other way around, especially if England self destructs over the EU and leaves the Single Market whilst Scotland gets sound economic growth going.

The English seem to think that England is the centre of the world, this distorting their perceptions which seem to be somewhat adrift from reality. It is as if they are living in some kind of constant denial about reality.

I can say that as I am English.

The manipulation on the referendum debate is quite breathtaking. Scotland has around 62% of the European Union’s proven oil reserves and around 12% of the EU’s proven gas reserves. Most countries would recognise that Lady Luck is shining on them big time if they had such great good fortune. But the NO people present this as a big problem because commodity prices are not fixed but go up and down according to the balance between supply and demand which fluctuates. Well, speaking as an individual, I would be much happier to put up with the consequences of fluctuating prices if I could personally own 62% of the European Union’s proven oil reserves and around 12% of the EU’s proven gas reserves than to be sat in splendid isolation with very little of the EU’s oil and gas reserves and therefore not affected by the consequences of fluctuating prices.

Scotland should remember that David Cameron needs the tax take from Scottish oil and gas to be the tape and string that holds together the financial basket case that is the English economy after his Government has doubled the national debt. Thirty five years of the English ripping off the Scottish nation over the oil and gas tax take could be close to an end and that must be a very frightening prospect within the hallowed walls of HM Treasury in London.

The great irony would be a big hike in oil and gas prices as a result of the way that David Cameron is trying to beat up President Putin but with Edinburgh reaping the tax bonanza rather than London. AKA shooting yourself in the foot.

It would be even more ironic if the EU were trying to get cosy with an independent Scotland following problems with oil and gas supplies from Russia at the same time that David Cameron is trying to leave the EU.

As I keep saying, the required skill is to be able see through all the smoke and mirrors and to find truth.

And did those feet in ancient time
    Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
    On England's pleasant pastures seen?

    And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
    And was Jerusalem builded here
    Among these dark Satanic Mills

How many many Scots live in England is Greater Than The English Living In Scotland.

Impossible to say without knowing the make up of future governments and policies.

Scotland would gain a whole host of tax raising powers and, of course, 90% of all oil revenues. We may lose financial services, but since we keep getting told that they're a massive liability to us, I can't see that being a great loss. We'll probably still export 25% and more of our electricity to England. We might even sell you our water. I'm guessing you won't mind if we keep the haggis.

With the rest of the UK one of two things will happen:
Either, the massive financial drain that is Scotland will be gone and you'll be rolling in cash forever more.
Or, without oil revenues propping up the finances you'll be in the doldrums for quite some time.
The banks that were also a massive liability to Scotland will now also be your problem. You can thank Mr Cameron for that last one later.

An interesting story in the Herald today with the following headline:

"ICM boss: a polling Waterloo is possible...we might have called it very wrong"

"OPINION polls showing the Yes and No campaigns neck and neck could be wildly inaccurate, a leading pollster has admitted.

Martin Boon, director of polling company ICM, said the independence referendum could prove a "polling Waterloo" and become the industry's biggest embarrassment since 1992, when surveys predicted a narrow victory for Neil Kinnock in the days before his eventual defeat to John Major."

That would be annoying. If, after all this excitement it turns out that one side or the other is ahead by miles.

They could be wrong in paying out too soon.
