Thread: Payment Methods

  1. #1

    Default Payment Methods

I am going to ask ebid support about accepting credit/debit card payments without going through PayPal. it mystifies me why it is so difficult to add almost any legitimate payment method. Surely ebid want us to make sales and give them their profit.
After 9 months; trying every combination of pricing, discounting, lost leader pricing, post free, make an offer, ensuring Google listing, good photos and descriptions... I am convinced it is payment method that inhibits potential buyers.
Now we don't have Google checkout I will add Skrill but what else can I try??

You can use any payment method you wish. Only some are integrated into eBid though. Any outside of those you will need to handle the payment yourself.

If you have a merchant account, and can process card payments yourself, then you are free to do so.

Many who think they can accept card payments actually can't without using an intermediary.

BTW... It is not helpful posting the same query on multiple threads.

Thanks for your input Mel, I think the key part of your comment is "integrated into eBid".

I suspect that even if I get a merchant account it will not be useable on ebid sales.

I am determined to make a success of ebid sales rather than go it alone with my own website and all the promotion problems that will entail

Thanks for the advice, I didn't realise that and will refrain from doing it again!

I was wondering if anyone could tell me of how paypal works? When a customer buys a product off of you and it goes to your paypal account. Does paypal withhold your payment for a certain amount of time before they release it to you? Or would you have access right away? My supplier drop ships the product to all of my customers

Admittedly I have only had a quick look at the first two listings, but from what I have seen the fact that you only accept payment through PPPay (a system which is not very widely used) rather than Payp**; added to that you have no terms and conditions or any information about yourself would work against you.

I think most people use paypal as it is easy to use and can be used to pay for most things these days
    not just auction stuff.
I offer 3 options of payment- paypal, uk cheques and Postal orders, but most use paypal. It has to be paypal for overseas buyers
as it cost a fortune to cash non uk cheques ( and it takes about a month to clear). Occasional I have accepted cash but the buyer needs to know it is entirely at their risk.

    Cheers Alan
