    Default Stamp Mounts

Acquired a second-hand Davo album - it's great! - I am in the process of filling it gradually...

But - there are one or two non-standard mounts added by the previous owner which I would like to remove: so, what is the best method to remove these, I wonder?

    Any tips/advice appreciated please...

Depends on how they have been mounted- if they are glued in probably the best option is to purchase a small pack of blank Davo pages for your particular country, or you could try contacting one of the suppliers with the page reference numbers, you may be lucky......

Not a 'Stampy' myself but... Depending on the adhesive, warming with a hair dryer may soften the adhesive enough to allow you to peel off the mounts without damaging the album. I use this method to open things like Jiffy Bags and remove address labels so that packaging can be re-used.

(I don't have enough hair left to need a hair dryer for its intended purpose.)

Gentle steamer is more effective than hair dryer as heat alone can make animal glues brittle.

I did say that it depended on the adhesive.

I would have thought steam would be risky on a paper object as it would have a tendency to damage/distort the item. I wouldn't risk steam on anything I wouldn't be upset if it got ruined.

Stampies must have come across this situation before - so they should know what works best in this particular case.

Many thanks for suggestions all - yes, the mounts are the dark backed pre-gummed type that you fashion to suit the stamp...

I will go with the heat treatment first, if not I'll see about getting replacement pages: never thought of that!

Thanks again - will keep you posted how it goes.

I've had a go : got some old pages and experimented - not terriblely scientific, but it worked!

First, tried using an iron on the back - with another paper layer to protect - that worked a bit, but after a while the mount, being plastic, started to melt and wrinkle up! - also the glue melted into the paper! hmmmmmmmm - too much heat in that method! :~(

So I got the ol' hair dryer out, complete with nozzle to direct the air ;-) using a lower heat I began to tease the mount at the same time with tweezers and this method worked much better! :~)) - only hard bit was not enough hands free!

Although the glue residue is still noticeable, it is still preffered to seeing the empty mount... TTFN
