Here we go again - UK Royal Mail is increasing postage rates

The price of a first-class stamp is to increase by 2p to 62p while a second-class stamp will go up 3p to 53p, Royal Mail has announced.

Also from 31 March, a large letter first-class stamp up to 100g will rise by 3p to 93p and a large letter second-class stamp will increase by 4p to 73p.

Not too bad then, 2 years ago it jumped from 46p to 60p for 1st class, least they have only inceased 1st by 2p instead of 7p

Parcels are the main concern for many. They are going up as follows:

Not too bad, hopefully it will mean low increases from the couriers as well.

I suppose it has sunk in, that people have gone elsewhere. They increased the size of a small parcel just before Xmas and now they are reducing their prices. I know I've been sending my parcels with My Hermes this last year.

I rarely have parcels and the UK increases for letters are not too horrendous. My problem is with international. What I use most is 40g letter. They've done away with that size; it's now 20g or 60g. I can't manage 20, unless I remove all protective packaging and send my cards in a plain white envelope - the risk of it being bend is just too great! So I look at an increase from 1.28 to 1.47 for Europe and 1.88 to 2.15 for ROW.

Have only sent a couple over 1k in the last 12 months due to the price, they might get a few more now - unless the couriers take this on board and stay competitive.

Personally I think they should increase the size of the large letter. I posted a necklace and earring set a couple of days ago. They were in a little box for safety and they cost £3.00 1st class to post. They were in the smallest size padded envelope but wouldn't quite fit through the flippin' slot!!

If you are sending a combination of parcels and large letters (minimum 1,000 per year) then you can apply for an "online business account" with Royal Mail which will see the cost of postage halved. There is a second type of business account which offers miniscule discounts which is not worth it so it is best to go for the online business account if you send 1,000 per year of parcels and large letters combined.

You need to get use to the fact that prices will increase because Royal Mail's costs increase and they have to keep up with that to stay in business unless they adopt my proposals which will save them millions per year in energy/fuel but that will never happen now it is owned by Cameron's posh twonk friends from Eton.

Yes, absolutley, whole-heartedley agree with this comment. I've had the same problem with sending pens. Also I had to cut down the height of a box by 4cm, so it would meet the height restriction of a small parcel. Ridiculous as the width of the same box, was less tha half the size of the new box dimensions!
