Another request for handmade as a top level catagory please

I like the idea of handmade as a top category. I assume there would then be sub categories of various kinds.....clothing, home and garden, jewelry, occasion and seasonal, etc. This would be good. Also, if someone listed handmade jewelry in the Jewelry category, and only mentioned handmade (or didn't even mention it being handmade), it should be fine there, too.

I don't see any reason a re-sale of a hand made item would not go into handmade. If I were to buy a hand made purse from Peru, then when I get it home and want to sell it, it is not any less hand made than it was at purchase. I don't know why anyone would assume that just because something is handmade, the seller is the one that made it. My daughter makes wonderful cards...............if I sold them, I would call them hand made.

We note your request. Hand-Crafted Items is currently a second level category of Crafts. We currently do not think that handmade requires a top level category.

We are currently looking at making Handmade a top level category. The sub categories would remain and move up accordingly. As handmade is currently part of the Crafts category would there be any sub categories from crafts that would benefit from being under the handmade umbrella.. any suggestions welcome.

Imho, only handmade items need to go there - the rest of crafts is craft materials (for the people who make handmade items rather than those who buy them)

Yes I agree, finished handmade items. Kits and stuff to make things in crafts

a search for "handmade" brings 6261 listings, hand made another 1177, hand crafted 367, and homemade 80. Surely this number of listings deserves some thought.
There is a growing market for hand made items as evidenced in the rise of sites like folksy, etsy and notonthehighstreet. Ebid could easily compete with these if it had a toplevel handmade catagory.

The current placing of handmade is just wrong. Please, eBid Andy, visit a craft shop - Hobbycraft or similar. Do you see any handmade items for sale? Basically, no! Handmade items are in quite a different sort of shop. The handmade items would be better off in the appropriate category for the finished item - as you have done with soap.
