Ah, yes, there is nothing like a visitor to make you look at the sights in and around your home

Yes, she is! But it has been fun revisiting parts of the city I haven't seen in years! Miss eBid certainly has more energy than I do!

Yes, thought I had been a "good tourist" when I first moved here, but there always seems to be more to see!

Another break in the rain and we head off to Coney Island, "America's Playground." This is a New York City neighborhood that features an amusement area that includes 50 or more separate rides and attractions.

The most historic amusement area in the United State lives on with a vibrant variety of attractions! We tried to see them all.

The Coney Island Cyclone is the father of America’s roller-coaster revolution and the big momma of Coney Island. It made its debut on June 26, 1927. Start with an 85 foot tall, 60 degree drop and then shake, rattle and roll through 6 turn-arounds and 8 more drops and you have a formula for fun and excitement.

A few other tidbits about the Coney Island Cyclone:

    • It was declared a New York City landmark on July 12, 1988.
    • It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 26, 1991.
    • It has the distinction of being the most copied roller coaster ever built 7 "clones" currently operating throughout the United States, Europe and Japan.

And no trip to Coney Island is complete without a stop at Nathan's,

the home of the annual Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest. Sorry I will miss that! Yes, I have eaten something other than hot dogs since I have been here. But the other food has not been nearly as interesting or steeped in so much history.

I have heard about Coney Island, but never really knew what it was. Looks like another successful day out

Coney Island is an interesting "neighborhood". The area was formerly an outer barrier island, but became partially connected to the mainland by landfill. And most recently, the city has put quite a bit of money into the area with the addition of an aquarium. A fun place to visit, but not sure I would want to live there.

Only a few more outings are left. Will be sad to see Miss eBid leave.

Who is to say? It is up to those that participate in YDC 123.

Another fun outing Miss eBid Coney Island reminds me of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, just a few miles from where I live. I wonder if you might end up visiting there after ydc 123 ......
