Ebid Stamp Success Stories

So, who has been successful (whatever "successful" means to you) as a stamp seller here on Ebid?

I'm very attracted by the idea of being able to have multiple highly customizable shops for different collecting areas. I tried my luck on Ebid a couple of years back but had little success... but I was expecting to "get traffic" from the site. Did NOT happen.

Now I am going to start again, build up some nice shops specializing in different areas, and then use them as "storefronts" that I bring my own traffic to (from my blog, twitter, Facebook pages and other forums). I have a feeling that will work a lot better.

Do you have an approach that has worked well for you, here?

I do not sell many stamps, and it is not my area of focus. However, I am always interested in reports of successful sales on eBid. Stamps are a popular item to sell on eBid, and it has the newest forum category for posting threads. So reports of success will be helpful to those who specialize in stamps, and other specialty sales areas as well.

I hope that your renewed efforts on eBid are rewarded by an increase in sales.

I also like the idea of having several shops for different items...

I've been very busy of late transferring stamp items to here from another site, so "working" this place has been on the back burner, even so my sales have been steadily improving and I am hopeful of further improvements once we get our items in better order.. i.e.: less duplicates and some better prices etc..

I am a big believer that stock items that are listed MUST be checked regular and updated for pictures, price and are in the correct categories etc..

Once a couple of thousand items are listed, (if you are like me) there Will be some mistakes ...

While not a stamp seller, though if I can find my old albums I might be in the future, I am a regular seller on eBid. Been here over 3 years and seen a massive improvement. I have also seen several posts from stamp sellers reporting sales and large multiple sales. The main thing is to use what eBid has to offer. One of those is highlighted in a thread I have just started titled 'Listing titles - more despair'. Getting the titles right is a must as a high proportion of sales will come through Google.

It's a question of patience in the Stamp category- building up a healthy stock of items can literally take years. Self promotion on eBid is also critical, you need to pull the buyers in rather than just waiting for them to find your listings.
I enjoy fairly good sales most weeks, but its a lot of effort for little reward sometimes, by the time the different agencies have taken their cut. Perseverance is vital, working out the right stock to list and which to hold back on-trial and error comes to mind!
My sales have doubled year on year for the last 4 years, but it took over 4 months to get a sale when I first started.
Great idea to specialise in certain areas, if that is where your expertise lies then use that knowledge to your advantage. There is massive scope in the Stamp category for both specialist sellers and general sales as well, as they appeal to different buyers, so in my opinion the more sellers the better, big and small- our competition is not the other eBid sellers, but sellers on other sites.

Agree with all you say.... I think we (Stamp sellers on this site) need to co-operate and encourage MORE Sellers because Sellers all bring extra buyers to the site...

More buyers = more sales for us all..

Be good if we could STANDARDISE the titles (as maybe suggested by kreative) but not sure how we could do that..??

I think my titles are good, but I'm always open to suggestions and an honest debate (with good intent) about titles may throw up some good ideas. (I would consider it a complement if someone was to copy my title format)..... feel free all stamp sellers. :-)

Just out of interest I compared one of your stamp titles to my own title

You do have more Key Words than me which is a plus.

But the lack of a catalogue number ( Stanley Gibbons I would hope ) is missing an important part of the listing.

Secondly the use of "-" are a waste of space for your best friend Google.

Yours :- 1 AAT 1961 - Mawson Expedition 5d - 1 Used Stamp 10123

Mine :- Australian Antarctic Territory Stamp SG 7 Used

Thanks for that tip.... I never gave the "-" any thought and I do sometimes run out of room for longer titles. Have to fix 'em over time.
In your title - Used or MNH etc.. could be put in front of "Stamp" for an extra key word.

I'm still not convinced about the Catalogue number - There are so many different Catalogues available and the numbers don't mean much to some people. #10123 in the example above will mean nothing to anybody except Me and it is there only for my use and is part of the way I store and then later find the particular Stamp.

Storage and retrieval of listed items is an other subject and becomes more difficult when you have several thousand items listed over multiple websites as I'm sure JD will agree.

For example SG numbers mean nothing to me because I can not afford to buy a full set of SG Cat's and with Australian stamps, in the past I have found the Cat that I use a much better option.

I must disagree.

Catalogue numbers are critical, and Stanley Gibbons is the supreme catalogue,

Your own reference number should be entered in the SKU box as mentioned by Tony.

It will then appear on your Picking List as per my sales example below.

Thank you for the example - That is very helpful...... Now I have lots of items to update :-)

That solves one issue I have here, ( I do like it here ) but on some other sites there may not be provision for a product code.

I have listings on three other websites and trying to have one system that suits every case is difficult.

I'm sure SG is best for you but cost is a big factor for me here in Australia and Maybe Scott or Michael suits other sellers in the USA..

Either way, different sellers do use different numbers so if a Catalogue number is not in the book that is being used (maybe by the buyer) then the use of the number is surely diminished..?
