Strategic marketing would help. One thing I don't understand is why I don't have eBid packing tape? Let's see it has the eBid name/logo on it so it's advertising cost, one roll of packing tape would seal several packages and expose the eBid name whenever a package is sent yet, I have to buy or use buddy points to obtain. I can get an eBid T-shirt and try to find a place to wear it but I wear collared shirts.
I see Deal Dash ads pop up all over the place have yet to see an eBid pop up ad.

I too would be willing to pay higher fees in exchange for advertising. To say that's going to make ebid and the dark side the same is a big leap.

There are more things than just the fees that people dont like about over there. In fact I dont mind the fees over there, I pay so little for the items I sell to pay the venue that brings the buyers is no problem in my mind. Please dont misunderstand of course Id like to pay less or nothing even, but reality is if its going to work you have to pay.

I think that most thinking people would not mind paying higher fv fees if it all went to advertising ebid.
It would be better to pay say 3 or 4% if your sales doubled.

But there are some dead against it

And of course ebid have locked themslves into a lifetime deal with only 2% fees.
That's why I suggested changing the system for new members in my ideas series.

This site is what it is.
It's never really changed at all.
For over a decade it has kept a very low profile. I have no idea why, and can only guess.
Some people think they know how it should be run, which is all well and good.
But those people do not own nor run this site, so they can not make their suggestions work.
The same suggestions have been voiced over and over and over ( am I getting on your nerves yet?, Well think how the people feel who come here to judge and view the site), and still carry on being voiced, without any solution.
There is a solution, and that is, if you have a good idea for a selling site, then start a selling site.
I do agree now is the time to fill the gap that's being left.

As for fees, I feel that Ebid need fees to grow. I really do think they missed the boat there.
It was good to start with no or low fees, but without any listing fees, you need a membership to keep going.
10 pence per listing per month is not going to break the bank.
Free to registered charities, no FVF to start and see how things progress.
It would give Ebid a change to expand a bit, and evolve into something everyone can use.

As for listing ~ the amount of listings means nothing, nothing at all.
As a listing is just an item that has not been sold.
So how is bragging that there are 10 million listings any use?
That is 10 million UNSOLD goods sitting there.

If you list 1,000 items and still have no sales, then why would you bother with another 1,000?
Just to fill up a shelf? For appearances sake?
How are people to know there are 1,000 or 10 million listings, in the first place?
Why should they care? They just want to buy one or two items.
And there is not a site anywhere that will stock everything.

As for negative postings ~ sorry ~ I see that both sides need to express their views, the good and the bad side of any site.
It is not negative to state you have no sales, or that threads are pulled, or changed, or to make suggestions that differ from what others think.

Before anyone pays, and most of us have paid, they need to know why they are parting with their hard earned cash, and what it will bring them.
Most do not have the cash to just "give it a try" and it would be unfair to expect them to pay out without some return.

Word of mouth? Why not just get the tom toms out?
If you want word of mouth, then stand in any post office queue, and asked the 10 people in front of you, if they have heard of Ebid.
If they haven't, ask yourself, how are they going to buy my goods listed there.
Yes, you've told 10 people about the site, but how many will rush home and use it?
What reason would they have to use it?
In short what are they getting out of it?

Like I said earlier, the same threads, for over a decade.
If the site wants to stay the same, let it, it's their decision not ours.
There are other sites, younger ones than here, that are on the up and up.
If you can't change something, then you can move on.

Or keep bashing your head against a brick wall ~ the choice is yours.

10p per listing per month would destroy my business (and I'm not alone).

The site has changed dramatically - I used to sell during YDC, now I sell most days.

And you have totally ignored Google Shopping which several sellers say is the main way their listings are found by buyers. This costs eBid money and seems to pay dividends.
    Madelaine

4 shops for Cats Protection & Prospect Hospice
    My Postcard Shop
    BK Stamps for Philatelic listings
    & Yarnalong for craft patterns
    and
Lotzabitz -anything that doesn't belong in one of the other shops.

Because some may have some good ideas for an online auction site to suggest they start their own auction site seems an odd statement.

If I were to bring my car into my mechanic shop for repair and suggest he look into my transmission due to observations made while driving doesn't make me qualified to open a mechanic shop.
