I don't see what the point of this story was in the context of which it was raised. It has nothing to do with any deliberate business decision, involved bogus bidding, and threw away the chance of even a modest profit.

Fine. Then can we all agree to accept our different views, accept that further rhetoric is unlikely to alter our beliefs concerning this, stamp on the nutshell and walk away from the fragments? In particular I would imagine there's one thing we can all agree on, which is that despite years of this kind of thread, I can't recall eBid's management EVER commenting on the issue (though I'd be happy to be shown mistaken on that). And that hints very very strongly that they have their own views, they consider it their right to decide, and advice on advertising isn't likely to sway them.

Exactly, and what every tedious thread on this subject eventually boils down to. eBid, quite rightly, run their business as they deem fit. Users have the simple choice of use the site or not.
