There have been hundreds of thousands? - I must have missed most of those.

baconbuttyman is calling for advertising, yet is also selling on a site that has a massive advertising budget and the grand total of feedback received is:

    Recent Feedback:

4.0 stars over the past 12 months (10 ratings)

Other general alt sites of a similar size to eBid have, over the years, also gone through the variants of main stream advertising - and they have failed miserably.

I sell daily but if you are going too sit at your computer all day listing that will not make you sells you need to promote yourselves I do very well I post to facebook everyday too twitter anywhere i can shout out about ebid i do you will make sells if selling on other sites offer a discount off there next order if thy use ebid instead we have low fees i can live with a bit of advertising I advertise advertise did i mention i advertise if persons dont know about ebid they wont come to ebid. We all need to get the word out we are here sell slightly cheaper on here as you can with next to no fees I know ebid is a great site tell everyone about it let them use your buddy link like i do sorry about all my points that i am waiting to spend but tell people about ebid a lot of sellers on other sites can not sell on the other sites as the fee are just too high so tell your friends about ebid and many sells to all

the issue with your post is all you focused on was my feedback, most amazon users do not use the fb rating system, on amazon i have had 45 sales in 12 months, I am very pick n choosy what i list on there as the fee's are HIGHER than ebay, but i can list as and when i want with out worry about being ripped off by the customer, i can refuse refunds if i know a buyer is lying etc, which they do, but at least i am getting sales, I cannot compare ebay to Amazon, two totally differnt styles, where ebid is MORE comparable to amazon, the Auction bid side of ebid in 0 existent

At the risk of going off topic, this statement is not true. I have quite a number of recent sales via auction and have more items where bids have been placed but the end of sale has not yet arrived.

I know this isn't affordable for everyone, but perhaps more people could consider similar ideas?
What? Actually do something instead of whining? Madelaine, you're failing to understand the mentality of some folk!

To be fair, I'm sometimes a whiner myself when it comes to UI design and programming, but these are topics I've had 50 years experience of, so when I notice small eBid issues that could readily be corrected I don't hold back my comments. But the people who bang on about major policy decisions of the company such as marketing spend should lay out their credentials or else focus on their own business. I suspect most of them have as much chance of being hired as marketing consultants as of NASA offering them a flight to Mars.

I'm happy with low fees and no advertising. Ebid is an ecommerce site with far far more potential than if I ran my own. (Though if I wanted to run my own I'd probably use Drupal plus Ubercart). And the uploads to Google I suspect do far more for sellers than a bit of brand promotion would. Anyone who thinks advertising is cheap can do their own.

Instead of whining about the whiners why not take heed to what others might be whining about.
It appears it hasn't occurred to the handful of black and white thinkers something different might just work. After all the previous 15 years of expertise here has netted what?
Think outside your little boxes you're stuck in please.

Disagreeing with you is thinking inside the box?

I'd love advertising but I don't have to pay for it and I can't see the eBid accounts.

While I don't have Johnwash's experience as a programmer, I have some & I've been selling online for most of this century. I've also sold at antique fairs, in antique arcades, on the other side, the river, specialist auctions & the late lamented tazbar. Oh, yes and, long ago & far away, on cqout. I've sold in every section except property - never sold a car but I've sold car parts. My comments are not black & white and I do not have tunnel vision.

However, I do know that eBid's management will do mainstream advertising when they are ready and the rest of us should save our breath to cool our porridge on the subject.

I have been described by Gazza as one of eBid's sternest critics - not a cheerleader you will notice. I will ask endlessly for the things I think eBid needs which do not involve huge injections of capital, but I am heartily sick of people with no or few listings constantly criticising eBid. It won't change a thing and just makes the boards look nasty.

Not a big fan of pooridge.

Why do you suppose some only have a few listings here?
I do need to add two cymbals from profit from A cymbal sale I made here but it won't be the hundreds or thousands of listings some deem as necessary.
I'm glad YOU brought it up. My few listings are the reflection of how my listings have built since joining in 2010. The box isn't getting bigger.

I dont need credentials to know what needs to be done, I own and run my own business, i have been selling on line since 2001, i have frequented the likes of Tazbar, cqout and one from years back which i cant remember the name of, Ebay too, gumtree, preloved and yahoo, I have sold items from snooker cues to cars, from a garage to dehydrated ice cubes, I made and lost £10,000,000 in one day on Ebay, so my selling credentials are long, i have no experience in marketing and i don't see why i do, it doesnt take a genius to work out that ebid is a sleeping Giant who needs to be woken up
