Elf Shot Viking Pendant and Necklace, Genuine Neolithic Arrowhead, 4000BC - £40

Genuine Neolithic arrowhead dating to around 4000BC secured into new white metal sleeve with new suede necklace. Comes complete with new display / box.

The Vikings, among others believed that many of life's aches and pains were caused by 'Elf shot'. Having found Neolithic arrowheads in the Middle Ages and not having a more suitable explanation for them the idea arose that they were manufactured by elves and used to annoy and inflict injury upon humans. Sharp pains associated with arthritis, muscle problems and just generally old age were blamed on the elves firing these projectiles, it was believed that finding an arrowhead could end the pain and also that wearing one could protect against attack in the first place.

A number of original Viking pendants have been found dating to the 9-11 centuries but these are rare and command extremely high prices. The above item has been assembled closely to the known originals using a genuine high quality Neolithic arrowhead, a yellow metal sleeve and a suede necklace. The result is a beautiful and interesting item that is both historic and usable.
