The fees on eBid may be lower but if your buyers, or in my case lack there of, are using Paypal as the form of payment then eBay is making money on that transaction. It may be necessary because Paypal is such a trusted payment site but the rich get richer and even here you can't get away from their fees.

If eBid gains some of the collectable sellers displaced by new charges and other rule changes this will give buyers an even better choice which is a good thing for eBid.......
I dont sell on feebay but I thought I would use their Fee Calculator for a Postcard with a buy it now price of £1.00 the result with no special offers was.

    eBids Fee is £0.02

57p versus 2p (for a eBid Seller+ Lifetime account using a gallery picture) is a no brainer for low cost collectibles.

My response was to the posting by Juliebabe. The content should be seen as such.
There your facetious, sarcastic response was uncalled for and adds nothing to the debate.

Like you I don't sell over there, so thank you for sharing the calculation - pretty horrific isn't it.

I can't be alone in my reaction when they announced the changes, something along the lines of:

I do love the bay, but only because I sell solely on eBid. I wonder if I should send them a thank you card for providing me even more new custom and sales.

For me, it isn't-- and likely never will be-- an "all or nothing" proposition.

I really like eBid because-- as a seller of stamps to collectors-- it allows me (as others have pointed out) to sell lower priced items that are still "in demand" with my target audience. It's also super cool that I can have FIVE stores as part of my "Seller+" subscription, so I can put all the "related areas" together in a neat package that doesn't waste my potential buyers' time.

"The Bay" has the numbers in the sense that I can put a desirable item up for auction at a super low price and there are enough people looking for it to turn into a "bidding war," and I get some pretty stellar results, quite often. That's not about me "overcharging," that's about what happens when a lot of people (collectors) want to get their hands on the same item, at the same time. If I put that same $100 item out on eBid with a 99c opening bid, I fear I would probably end up giving it away for 99 cents.

At the same time, this doesn't mean I'm against putting my $100 item HERE, it's just going to be at a fixed price, because the potential downside risk of offering a valuable item at a low starting bid here on eBid is HUGE.

Seems to me we just need to be honest with ourselves about what each site "does" and then use that knowledge to our advantage.

I totally agree, a smart business person is not going to put all their eggs into a single basket.
