    Unhappy Goodbye salad of pills

Today I learned that I have to start injecting insulin.

After 9 years of tablets, trying to beat the last dregs out of my pancreas, it is time to admit my pancreas is knackered.

About an hour of feeling depressed and dreading being a pincushion, and then I slipped into gear being practical about how to transport needles and insulin around the world, how to inform the DVLA, and how to avoid getting fat. I also read lots of things from people who said they felt much better once they were on insulin, and that is my lifeline because I have been having a rough time recently trying to control diabetes with a salad of various pills.

What Her Majesty said. Good luck and at least you'll get to ditch the pills, which in my book has to be worth something, (of course I'm a bit of a pill phobic).

Best wishes for many sales to all,

Hope everything works out well for you Bill.

A friend of ours has been injecting insulin for years. He does have to watch his sugar intake, avoids most sugary foods and eats healthily.
While we are gradually putting on the pounds, he has stayed the same size he was at 25!

I know a few folks like this; my guess is they're far more careful (and therefore healthier) than the rest of us.

Best wishes for many sales to all,

Just last week I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

I'd gone for an eye test as my vision had deteriorated quite rapidly over two weeks.
I got referred to the doc and my blood tests came back with sky high sugar levels.

Hell of a shock I can tell you!

A pee test result meant I can use tablets for now instead of going on insulin.

Still trying to get my head around it.

Bill, don't know how many times a day you have to take insulin, but some people use a pump to avoid multiple sticks per day. Each person is different in terms of the regimen needed. Also you may find you do not have much of an aversion to the injections, once you start using them. Just make sure you monitor yourself, and work with your provider. Hope all goes well with maintaining your sugar levels.
