Just wondering what protection I might have IF I were to buy items on ebid?
Other than having to rely on paypal to claim money back on any item that might not arrive

Reading between the lines though (hopefully not erroneously) are you trying to draw a comparison between eBay and eBid? If so, the [so called] Buyer Protection on eBay only applies if you pay via PayPal. It is PayPal that offers the protection and not eBay. As they are sister companies it is commercially expedient for eBay to give the impression that it is they that provide the protection. PayPal protection is available whoever and wherever you purchase from.
