Thread: Petition to introduce compulsory registration of all landlords & letting agents

  1. #1

Default Petition to introduce compulsory registration of all landlords & letting agents

    Do you RENT your home,
if so, then you will know that good landlords are very very hard to find,
getting a repair done can be very difficult, or have you rented from a landlord who would suit the name slumlord more.
There is currently no compulsory registration scheme for landlords or letting agents, I am petitioning the government to sort this out, Compulsory registration will help improve the industry, keep tenants safe from rogue landlords, and improve the quality of properties for rent. Please click the LINK below and sign this petition, you never know, it may help to improve your housing situation
Tenants have to go through extensive vetting systems!!
But what do landlords have to do, nothing, how do you know that your deposit is safe.
This system I propose will ensure all landlords are solvent, mortgages are up to date, deposits are securely held, AND that Letting agents and landlords alike act in a responsible manner, This is something that has been over looked for too long, So help weed the crooks out of the system
Please sign the petition below, all you have to do is follow the link.
Please note, simply LIKING this post will have no input, you MUST click the link below

You really should have run it through a spell checker.

Signed, had over 20 landlords in my time, and probably no more than 3 decent ones.

Tenants come in all flavours also. Friend of mine came back from overseas to find their house had been trashed by the tenants.

WHen i was tenant i rented a house with out buildings i was cheap to rent because the house needed ongoing maintaince, i was responsible for repairs . i looked i agreed, i would not want to see the choice taken away in any sort of legislation from the landlord or the tenant

If a compulsory registration scheme was introduced I would suspect a lot of good landlords would stop letting out their houses. It's hard enough finding a place to rent here in the south already and this would just make it harder. Also with less houses on the market available rents for those remaining would rise.

Of course slum landlords wouldn't bother to register anyway
My posts only state my own opinions, unless I've stolen them from someone else

That would not have corrected "hosing" for example.

As a landlord I can honestly say I have never hosed a tenant

There's already a landlord registration scheme in place in Scotland.

    http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Bu...s/registration

Not sure how effective it is though, I'm sure if rogue landlords want to find a way around it they manage somehow, although I suspect the £50,000 fine might help to focus the minds of the casual slum landlord.

However, with that in place up here, I'm not sure that I'm allowed to sign a petition on English only matters

The slum landlords would have to pay attention, or housing benefit wouldn't be paid for the addresses they rent out. That would be the majority of the slumlords income, and the tenants who are generally treated the worst. A private tenant can move much easier than a benefit claimant, and can withhold rent for repairs etc,
There are, of course, problem tenants too, perhaps if the general feeling towards landlords was better this wouldn't be such a problem. That's not to say that only problem landlords get problem tenants, but when a tenant has had a bad experience in the past, they expect it again, so don't care about the property or the landlord.
    IMHO anyway!
