Thread: Free books..any takers? Space needed

  1. #1

Default Free books..any takers? Space needed

I've been trying to sell for some weeks over 100 books in about 7 boxes as a job lot

I haven't got time or patience to list individually

'Condition ranges from very fair to very good

    Eclectic mix of subject matter

    Paper back & hard back

    Fiction & non-fiction

    Size: small - coffee table'

Before my outhouse gets it annual visit from my little field mice friends, would any eBid members like to have these books for free?
    To keep/sell/whatever

I just have a thing about charity shops taking over the high street.....but I don't mind if a charity on eBid takes them!

'Buyer' collects from Wrenbury CW5 or if you're happy to pay carriage I'm sure I can organise something there

The big problem is the cost of carriage would probably be more than the books are worth to anyone.
Your best bet would be to advertise them in your local free ads.
I have sold some of my books at boot fairs but they dont pay much for them (they dont pay much for anything, come to think about it!) but I did have some that my brother gave to me and spotted one that I thought might sell, which I got a good price for on TOS (sorry), so it does depend on what ones you have.
I would suggest putting an ad in your local paper.

Thanks for suggestion Zara (??) but have already tried classified ads with absolutely no response!

Sold a handful of collectible books early on from this pile but the bulk of them just appear worthless!

I'll whizz down to my local Oxfam at weekend if they don't go to someone else before that
If Oxfam don't want them, I'll take them to my local dump.....but I'll even need a permit from the council to drive in there in my little van!

Depending on what type of genre your books are, is there a Care Home nearby that would take them, or even a Hospital Library ? If they're paperbacks, they can be used in cases where they would have to be destroyed after use.

I got rid of a few boxes of paperbacks and magazines to a nursing home not long ago.

Just a thought, as I'd hate to think of them going to the dump!

    Care home....good idea! Thnx.

In fact, because there's quite a diverse range of books there has to be something in there for everybody
Lot of large hardbacks included tho.

Could always burn them on my multi-fuel fire I suppose (only joking!.....well apart from the celebrity chef autobiography!)
