I know there has been so many threads regarding google exposure: but I still remain mystified by how it all works.

For example, I do a shopping search against my username and come up with a mere 8 listings out of over 2000+ !!!

My latest listing http://uk.ebid.net/for-sale/97819054...-132604970.htm should show up surely?

If I do google shopping search on Picture Postcard Annual 2015 it simply doesn't show...

I can't give you an actual count but I am seeing a great deal more than the numbers you claim.

Ok, from my main PC I can get some numbers.

Items showing on Google Shopping from your stores:

Church Postcard Views: 443 items.

one20postcards: 940 items.

London Postcards: 468 items.

Not in a store: 8 items.

So....do we have a situation where the results returned by Google will vary wildly by region?....i have to admit that i have seen a pattern where i will achieve sales from certain regions and see nothing from elsewhere...or perhaps i'm taking a coincidence too seriously?.

Just re-read that. Searching GS on your eBid username will only return those of your items not in a store. Items in a store are listed under the name of the store they are in - not your username.

aha! - getting there slowly, eh? - I see it now if I search against my username, but if I search against the title : picture postcard annual 2015 edition : I don't see my eBid one... confused and dissapointed - am I doing something wrong, I wonder?

Sounds like Google simply haven't indexed it yet. I know when I used to submit my own feed items were always visible before they were searchable.
