Last weekend I listed several items with "late 19th -- early 20th century" in the title.
Checking them later they have come out as "late 19th .. early 20th century". With dots not dashes.
E.g listing no. 132755699.
Is this a glitch?

Likely not, eBid have a habit of messing with titles and descriptions with no warning or explanation.
Did you list it on site or upload it?

The reason I asked was that if the listing was carried out on site then you should have been told that certain characters were not acceptable and their entry refused. To accept input and then discard it without any notice to the user is simply bad practice. The same applies if the listing was created offline and uploaded - but eBid have less control of that at the input stage.
Would this question have something to do with the QUERTY keyboard - the hyphen and the long dash. Are you using the long dash or the hyphen?
I've noticed errors when using the long dash by mistake.

Probably more to do with eBid using listing titles to form URLs linking to the listings. Certain characters are not allowed in URLs and it is likely these that are being messed with. There's no reason eBid could not create a valid URL without altering the listing title, but I suspect they are forcing the title compliant to URL rules thereby altering it. Just a guess...
