Default What If ??? (multiple sales)

Please do not interpret my question as negative, I only wish to gain an understanding.

To those who have multiple auctions/sales how do you do it ?
Lets place a number, say you have 2,000 listings alive and ready to go.
On any given day you receive 1,000 buyers wanting to make a purchase..., how do you do it ?

Since I manufacture every item on my site, I have set aside items I have listed here on eBid.
At one time I had 80+ items ready to go, if only half were purchased at one time I would have been swamped.
I could have made it, however it would have been lots of work in packaging and shipping...
I've since eliminated 3/4 of my items due to many reasons, I now have the amount I am very comfy with.

The one thing I have always made a goal is to provide immediate delivery.
How do you do it ?

I think you already have a good plan, when im listing, the listed items are to hand, as well as enough packaging to cover most if not all the items, again i try to post the same day or the next day so having all that is required to service the sale is a must, and a frame of mind if i have a sale every thing else has to stop while i get the order ready and posted, from parcel tape to ink in the printer for my printing off a sales slip.

I have 95% of my handmade items ready just to personalise as requested. For items like soaps and shampoos made for a specific condition I state in the listing they will be made to order and I have 3 or 4 days as my dispatch time which gives me time to do anything that needs done to them. If anyone requests a delivery date I do my best to make it the same day / next morning and post if it isnt the weekend
Simply Handmade all my handmade items

Please have a look. I combine postage wherever possible.

This made me laugh, it brought back memories of the YDC a couple of months ago. I think I spent most of the day packing everything up, most of them 2 or 3 times as try as I may nothing seemed to fit the RM size or weight that I thought it was going to.

I eventually got to the post office with 5 minutes to spare, looking like I had been pulled through a hedge backwards and feeling like I had been run over by a JCB.

The worse part was that, I think, it was only 4 or 5 items!!

I suspect anyone lucky enough to have 1,000 buyers a day will be earning enough to employ help.

On The Dark Side, I regularly had 20 -30 items finishing together on a Sunday night.
I used to wrap and pack on Monday morning to ship same day.

However, some were multiple buys so only one package, and not everybody paid right away. So that gave me a bit of breathing space.

I found that I could wrap about 25 parcels in a morning, maximum. I had to make a lot of the packaging from scratch, as the items were different sizes and shapes.

The trick is to have everything to hand, and a ready supply of packing materials. But if you had hundreds to do, you would be in a professional situation, and would have to employ someone.

I suspect that you would find solutions as you went along.
