i agree with that statement, they are just trying to cash in on the feelings aroused by the recent public memorials of WW1 & WW11

i also dislike all the companies rushing to show how good they are, plus of course showing their own products, in the CIN show last night. Not to forget the singers promoting their self and their latest cd/show whilst pretending they are doing it just for charity

I am sitting on the fence on this one. Agree that it is immoral to hijack an historical event, as Damian quite rightly puts it but on the other hand I doubt that RBL would be able to have such a successful fundraiser without Sainsbury's input.

I'm sure Sainsbury's are expecting to make a shed load out of it but I suppose RBL are hoping to make some too.

I wouldn't know Sainsbury from mulberry. Are they a controversial store. I just don't see the connection. Cynical and tacky? I'm lost here. If anyone would explain more to me I would appreciate it. If not here, then PM me. I just want to understand the bad vibes surrounding this video. If it had another store associated with it would that have made a difference?
I just don't understand the hostility over this video. Thanks for your patience.

As with most TV advertising, its been done primarily to increase brand awareness

Crass commercialism & in very poor taste!

    Article from RBL site HERE

Sainsbury's and RBL have had a partnership for 20 years and the company raised £4.5 million for the charity last year

Poppa please don't remove this thread.

I watched the video 3 times.

My immediate reaction in the first few seconds was OMG! how can a company so large as Sainsbury's use this ad?

I then watched it again. Yes, it is promoting chocolate and crackers - sorry US I can't think what you would call these other than water biscuits that you have with cheese.

The 3rd time it dawned on me. Yes, Sainsburys are promoting their wares (as all supermarkets do and members of eBid do, but the story has a very poignant meaning. The 2 'boys' become 'friends' for a few hours at Christmastime. They were thinking of their loved ones back home. They didn't want to be fighting for their country, they wanted to be at home with their beloved families. They wanted PEACE, just as the words convey in a poem by Longfellow, The Christmas Spirit.

PEACE AND GOODWILL TO ALL MEN
