Text program?

Does anyone know if there is a program I can install on my laptop that will allow me to text someone's cell phone?

googling "text from computer" produces a number of hits

http://www.text4free.net/ is one... I've note used one for years so I don't know which is good.

If you have Skype, you can send a text message to a cell phone.

If you and the other party have facebook accounts you can chat and it will go to their phone as a text.

That is how I communicate with grands as they are all long distance charges even though some only live 1 mile away

True and I use for some...but it is chargeable.

If you have a smartphone then install the viber app to the phone, then download viber to pc/laptop. You may then send sms free from the pc/laptop...but NOT from the smartphone, so be careful!
