Default Help wanted with computer puzzle.

I'm trying to resurrect an old computer of mine to try out Linux Mint. (HP Pavilion A 640)

I last used it in 2006, and it has Windows XP Professional.

My problem is that the drivers are out of date, including the VGA and the ethernet. Consequently, I have a very poor flickering screen, and can't connect to the Internet. I also don't know what graphics card I have, and it doesn't appear in the system details when I look.

I have another computer which works.

Does anyone know how I can download up-to-date drivers on my working computer, and transfer them to the old one, bearing in mind I don't know who made the graphics card?

You could try these two links squern
Speccy will give you the information about the internals of your computer.
and driver guide may have the driver(s) you need or perhaps be able to point you in the right direction.

I have in the past used driverzone to download drivers and transfer them on a stick to a laptop with no network card

Go to belarc.com and find the download "Belarc Advisor" Put on flash drive and transfer to your other pc...run it to get the basics- which cards you have etc. Download drivers as needed via working PC...step by step should work.

However you may wish to try to run Linux on the machine using the usb drive as the working unit as an experiment. If so then pm me...it's quite easy to do.
