    I was almost disappointed that they didn't stay at a place in Battambang that I used to stay at.......

    But then a picture appears! The Guess sign is a recent addition That Guest House used to have a check in form to fill out where you had a section to list all your guns, grenades, rocket launchers etc.... that you happened to be carrying.

    Sticky rice is absolutely fantastic.

    Great to see pics, what comes across to me most is that the people there have a future.... in the past there was only today because with Cambodia's history tomorrow may never arrive.

    Gone Batty - last day in Battambang

    Nearly at the end of their trip, & will fly home from Phnom Penh all to soon for them, I suspect.
    Oh well, all good things come to an end, but it has been great while it lasted.
    Looking forward to the PP pix however!

    Desley was not feeling well today with some sort of head / chest cold or worse.
    Our best guess is she caught it from a little girl who stood on the seat between her Parents behind us on the bus here from Siem Reap - she coughed through the gap between our seats right onto the back of Desley’s head for 4 hours or so. Her Mum and Dad didn't seem to notice.
    We are leaving here for Phnom Penh tomorrow morning. This time on a 10 seater Hiace Van or similar. It should take about 5 hours......so let’s guess maybe 7 hours then.
    As today was our last day we called on Borith again to take us back to the Bat cave near Phnom Sampeau.
    At this time of year, at somewhere between 5:30 & 6:00 p.m., a massive number of small bats fly out of a cave in the mountain side and head off some distance to a lake where they feast on mosquitos. They return to their cave at around 3:00 or 4:00 a.m.
    We have taken video of the bats but the files are way too large to upload here unfortunately. There are some still-shots attached, these showing a very small number of bats exiting the cave - note that the bats in the photos represent maybe one or two seconds worth of the total.
    Get this though - they continue leaving the cave at this rate for about an hour.
    Someone in a Lab coat has estimated the cave population at 6,000,000 bats.
    I was sceptical when I heard this, but having seen them now, it may well be right.
    Our next post will be from Phnom Penh.
    Ciao.

    Phnom Penh - Days 1 & 2

    Royal Palace & grounds plus The Silver Pagoda

    Well Bro & Sil have been busy since arriving in the capital & therefore this will be a rather extensive series of posts! Phew!
    Heaps of pix to get through & I don't want to cull any, so here we go!

    The road trip from Battambang to Phnom Penh took 5 hours. We had a newish Ford Transit 'Bus', all done up inside and fitted out to carry 9 people plus 2 extra in the front - although those seats were occupied by employees of Mekong Express.
    Our Driver was keen to keep to the timetable so we pretty much flew over the largely poor quality roads. As Des & I were in the rear seats we felt all of the bumps unfortunately.
    We are staying at the Hotel Salita on Road 280, near to Sihanouk Blvd. This is a 3 star job and our room is a good size with fridge, key card entry, Cable TV, air-con, electronic safe, bath & shower with the best water pressure and temperature yet. There is a Restaurant on the 10th floor with views in all directions over the City. Breakfast included for $22 USD per night.
    Today (the 30th) was quite busy and hot. We covered a bit of ground and so I have split the photos into a few separate topics / locations:-
    1. Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda (The best bits are inside the buildings where photographs are not allowed);
    2. Flowers & the like around the Palace (and some other spots);
    3. Wat Phnom;
    4. The Russian Market & surrounds.
    We hope you enjoy them.

    In room 506
