Anyone know what this is, and what it is for?

It's made of metal and 4 inches long

yep. shoe/boot/ button hook. Used for getting those tiny round vintage shoe buttons through the loop.

There does not appear to be any buttonhooks listed on ebid, so if I list it, it'll be a unique item on ebid.

Not looked at categories yet, would I list it under clothes and accessories?

ETA just did an ebid search using button hook (first result of 0 for buttonhook) got 9 results so not unique.
