    Default yarn postage query

Now I can no longer knit I was thinking of listing all my yarn, needles etc but i have a couple of queries about postage.

As i don't see anyone wanting to pay £2.80 postage on a single ball would I be better to list bundles of yarn of the same quality (but not necessarily the same colour) or invest in a vacuum packing machine?

How do other sellers package needles? And do they go as LL or SP?

I also have some inherited yarn dating back to the 50's / 60's still in their ball bands. Should I put them on a specialist site or on here.

    any advice welcome

Please have a look. I combine postage wherever possible.

Unless someone wanted a particular brand ply and color to finish off a project I wouldn't be selling single balls. Whilst typing I had an idea that perhaps you could make up kits with needles pattern and the amount of yarn needed. Patterns could be chosen from a selection and kits made up in colours of the yarn buyers would like. Also would you be willing to do local pick up as I have sold items this way on another site over here using this method in particular a sewing machine just before Christmas. Good luck its a pity I am so far away to make a purchase.

Thank you Momma. I do offer local pickup on all my items but as I live in a very rural area it is unlikely that anyone would live near enough to make it worthwhile.
I must have several hundred balls of wool. It was mostly baby knitting I did so lots of them are single 100g balls.

I also have lots of knitting magazines but i don't know if it is worth listing them

Don't waste your money on a vacuum packing machine Penni. My suggestion is you could either list all the wool in one listing as a Large Lot or separate listings with the same type of wool, i.e. double knitting.

Needles should go as LL but you must ensure the pointed ends are well covered so as not to split the packaging. Or, you could offer an xxx amount of needles which would then go as small package.

You've nothing to lose by listing Penni. You may just have the magazine that someone is after.

Can you squeeze a single ball of wool between two pieces of cardboard and sellotape down so goes as LL?
.. I have bought wool like that before.

    You could do an experiment.
Have a ball of wool, put it in a food bag / freezer bag, then attach it to your vacuum to see how thin it goes, cheaper than getting a specialist machine.
You could even use a packing bag, seal it up, and put a small hole in top and vacuum air out that way, then just tape over hole.

I wouldn't go the expense of a vacuum machine either Penni. Suggest you see how much you can get in a small parcel sized box and whatever the number, list as such. I would list the pairs of needles individually and send as LL.

A 100g ball would be too big to go as a LL (even squashed), so I would expect to pay for a package and most likely buy more than one to make it worthwhile, and the idea of a kit is a very good one
