Default Cannot Bulk Edit ANY buy it now items because multiple count items had prior sales

    Hi All,

Almost all of my items have either one of two shipping rates, a lower rate for less expensive items, and a high rate for more expensive items. This is due to my using a more protective, and more costly, shipping method with the more expensive items. All of my items are buy it now. Most are single available items, but I do have some "more than one available" items too.

I have done two bulk edit processes in the past, one each to change the two levels of rates. I thought that it had taken care of things, but now find some with the older rates. It appears to stem from a problem with bulk edit that it sees the multiple available items, that one or two have sold, but some more still remain available for sale, as listings that have bids on them so I cannot edit the shipping rates on the remaining available items in this listing, even though the sold items are just that, sold, not an open auction with active bids. This hangs up the whole bulk edit process so that I cannot even add the other items to the bucket. i.e. Do my bulk edit search, find 1667 items that meet the filter, try to add all, but it won't as it hangs up on the multiple available items that already had some completed sales.

I cannot even go into the individual multiple item auction that had sales and do a manual edit because the edit shipping field in these auctions is not accessible.

Hopefully this can be changed, or if someone can tell me a different work around, as this makes bulk editing unavailable to me. (I have over 13 thousand listings to deal with here...)

    Thanks in advance,
    Stan...

Bulk edit should not be looking at closed lsitings - or any that have bids on them - not sure if there is a limit to the number of listings it can do...

Had a glance at some of your listings and note that postage does not appear to be available to UK even though it says 'c desc' - tried a different country and the same happens, so the postage has gone amok...

Try setting a postage rate (or two) in you defaults first and test it on a few listings to see if it corrects...

    Best Luck

Thank you for your quick reply. I do have shipping listed for US sales. Non-US will depend on country and weight etc. I did do a bulk update on shipping rates a while back on several thousand listings and it worked fine, except it choked on the "more than one item available" auctions that already had a prior sale. I was not aware of this until a recent sale that came through with the old shipping rate and investigated further. It seems that when you add all under a bulk edit, it adds all until it hits one of the problem listings, then stops adding anymore. I was just hoping that the bug of bulk edit seeing a completed sale as a still open auction could be corrected. Thanks again...Stan

A workaround - you could close the listing and then relist it and edit all pertinent information.

    Hi Jewel,

Thank you for the suggestion. I had thought of the same thing, but figured that there still seems to be a bit of a bug here that should be looked at. Like I said, you cannot even do a manual single edit of shipping of a multiple item auction when there have already been prior sales completed. Besides, every time I would have to try to find all these problem auctions when trying to do a rates update because they seem to hang up the bulk update process.

Thanks again and have a really great day,
    Stan...

eBid is correct in that you shouldn't be able to edit a listing that has sales. The listing forms part of the contract between the seller and the buyer. That shouldn't be changeable (e.g. change gold rings to copper rings) after a sale. The correct procedure is to close the existing listing and create a new one for future sales - this retains the 'contracts' for the previous sales.

Bulk Edit shouldn't (if as you say) stall on an attempt to change one; it should report any listing that cannot be altered and carry on.

    Hi Mel,

Thank you for your reply and thoughts on this.

At least we agree on one point, being that Bulk Edit should report back on why and which auction it stops on.

As far as the main point goes though, unfortunately I don't agree with this line of thinking. I believe that both the buyer and the seller have a record of the past completed transaction and that is the official record of that sale. What I am saying is that if I have an auction that I am selling gold rings, with 100 available items and 10 sold last year, I have 90 remaining to sell. Now the post office comes around and raises their postage, now I have to raise my shipping on the remaining 90. Changing the shipping on these 90 have no affect on the other 10 that were already sold. They were paid for, and shipped out already, so I cannot go back and try to collect more shipping on past, completed, sales.

Now if this is the case here, then there should be a process in place where Bulk Edit lets you add all of the auctions that it can modify, and then report back a listing of whatever auctions it skipped over for whatever reason. Right now, it seems to just add whatever it can until it hits a problem auction and then it stops, without any clue of why. BTW: You cannot even modify the problem auction by doing a manual edit either.

Thanks again for your thoughts and have a great day,
    Stan...

OK, I figured I would go along with the general consensus here, so I closed all my auctions running with sales. Then went to bulk edit and ran a search for listings with domestic shipping for $1.00 and found 653. I click add all, and only 3 are added. I do a search for listings with shipping for $3.50 and found 1565. I click add all and 0 are added. The only reasons given are the standard ones as follows:

It is possible not all of the auctions you chose were added to the bucket. Reasons for this can include:

An auction is already in a bucket that has not yet been processed.
You have attempted to change a field that cannot be changed. eg. Changing a description after a bid has been made.

I do not have any buckets at all.
I did a search on domestic shipping, not description.
I click on auctions I am running with sales and have this result:
    Selling : Listings I'm Running - Sold - (0)

Just to add to the confusion. While in my list of 1565 auctions with $3.50 shipping that the add all button would not add any, if I click Tick All 50 listings and then go down to the bottom of the page and click add to bucket, 51 are added to the bucket. Don't know where the extra item is coming from, nor why I can add them in by ticking them and not through the add all button. Now if I have to do this this way, I will, but I will have to go through 32 pages of ticking all, and this is just to modify about 1/10 th of my overall eBid auctions...See my frustrations?

    So, any thoughts on this?

Thanks again for your patience and ideas,
    Stan...

Bulk edit will not pick up any closed or sold auction listings from your sold/closed auction list.

Yes, I understand that. I am just trying to get it to add all the open auctions that it lists out, no closed or sold ones...Thanks, Stan...
