If you have a Vodaphone PAYG, and don't use it for 60 days, they deactivate it and steal your money.
    It's in the contract.

Just happened to me with a phone I leave in the car for emergencies. Finally got my credit back (£22.00), but had to get another SIM card, then threaten them again over the phone.

When I went into the Vodaphone shop to complain, the manager ( about 12 years old in pigtails and cotton socks) advised me to ring Vodaphone and complain.
On the phone they had deactivated.

When I've used up the credit ( in about 2024, I estimate), it's back to Virgin mobile for me.

I'm with Vodafone and just use my spare phone once a month to make a 5 sec call to my main mobile. I do answer it but don't actually talk to myself. ☺️

Correction to that... my mobile provider is Vodophone and not VM. Just goes to show how little I use it if I can't remember who the provider is.
