The bleep DJ would either cut short or talk over the beginning and or end of the song you wanted to record...

Wonder if that's why I hardly ever listen to any radio station or any music now...

Never been someone who listens to the radio... big music fan... I don't like listening to radio because I don't like being told what music to listen to... I also despise my TV license money going on radio costs and presenters when there is no "radio license" that should pay for this

I used to listen to Radio Caroline, not the beeb. I didn't like the commercialism or the DJ banter, none of the radios I owned had a 'punch the DJ in the face button'. Eventually I collected music the hard way (though purchases) and discovered a whole swathe of music not aired on radio. I have never watched/listened to top of the pops, it had very little I was interested in. Now (thank goodness) we have youtube and I can discover music there. I frequently add to my collection after listening to it on youtube.
