Thread: Accepting Skrill payments if selling domestic (US) only?

  1. #1

Question Accepting Skrill payments if selling domestic (US) only?

Hello there, I'm just a newbie ebidder (and feebay refugee) but was wondering if it is worth accepting Skrill payments if I (currently) sell domestic (US) only? Is there a significant amount of people in the US that prefer Skrill over PayPal? No worries, I enabled it anyway because I eventually plan to sell internationally too.

Skrill is accepted internationally and in the USA. My last buyer paid me here with Skrill without difficulty. I do not accept Paypal as a payment method due to their most recent policy change. Paypal is still the preferred method of paying, but that is because buyers are more familiar with them. Sellers need to use Skrill more, and recommend it to their buyers.

Thanks for your reply, I guess there is no reason to *not* accept Skrill, it was so easy to setup and giving buyers more choices is rarely a bad thing.

The one thing that puts me off both Skrill and Nochex is that if people choose not to pay through it, then the account holder gets chareged a fee. Which kind of negates the reason for having it, if the thing costs you money.

Not sure I understand how that could happen. My buyers can choose other ways to pay me, but Skrill does not charge me if they do not pay through Skrill.

This is copied from the Skrill website.

What service fee do you charge for holding a Skrill account?

For non-business accounts, having a Skrill account is free of charge. But if you haven’t logged into your account or made any transactions in a 12-month period, we will deduct a service fee from your account of €1 per month (or the equivalent in your currency) for as long as the account balance remains positive.

So, all you have to do is log in at least once a year. Surely this is no problem.
I have offered Skrill on eBid and on the Belgian site for many years. I have never had to pay a charge.

I was reffering to te fact that most folks only consider paying through paypoo and other options do not get much usage. From what other contributors have posted it seems that I had misunderstood (thought that if your account did not have any traffic that charges were instigated).

Thanks for the info guys, it seems that either skrill have revised their t&cs or I misinturpretted what was there.

Glad you posted your comment, and glad I questioned your comment. Helps me understand more about using Skrill. I can manage to log in there at least once a year. Appreciate the information and clarification provided about Skrill in this post.

We actually do not charge when customers choose not to pay via Nochex. We do not charge any subscription or monthly fees making us the ideal solution for small to medium sized businesses.

Please feel free to refer to our website for more information http://www.nochex.com/
Hi, it was not Diceman that mentioned Nochex but me. If I remember correctly you charge if the the account is not used within a certain period. Also for reasons best known to yourselves you close accounts without warning if they are unused. That may be sensible to you, however we can't force folks to use a certain type of payment facility if they do not want to.
