Creosote works to stop them coming in if you can get your hands on any, you just need to paint a thin line round the outside of your house on the floor, it pongs a bit and is a banned item in the UK now, I don't know if it's banned in the US but ants will not cross the line for some reason and it does work 100% sure of that.

Thanks for all the good suggestions, they are much appreciated. I put out ant baits and sprayed and so far so good, knock wood. Weird thing is, they were all in the sink and nowhere else. My brother seems to think they came up the sink pipes due to all the heavy rain we've had, which may have flooded them out of their outdoor homes, (the sandy soil here floods rather easily).

I may try the Borax mix if I see them again, I don't want an exterminator here as I don't want Winston breathing chemicals due to his history of heartworms and possible compromised respiratory system.

A quick check at Wikipedia says this about coal-tar creosote:
"The United States Environmental Protection Agency regulates the use of coal tar creosote as a wood preservative under the provisions of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act. Creosote is considered a restricted-use pesticide and is only available to licensed pesticide applicators"

On the other hand...
Wood-tar creosote seems to be the active ingrediant of "liquid smoke" type food flavorings.

I've always found that if you have ants coming into your building you need to find where they are getting in, usually there will be a noticeable line of them marching to it, and sprinkle ground cinnamon across their path. This disrupts the chemical trail that they use as a guidance system.
